Matthijs de Ligt to Man United- Red Devils emerge favourites to sign Dutch star
The situation of Matthijs de Ligt has become a focal talking point after the Dutch defender was dropped to the bench yet again by Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel during their 3-0 humbling defeat by Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday (Feb 10). After the defeat, the Dutchman said in the post-match interview that he was a “top fit” to play in the match. With the former Ajax man out of favour at Bayern Munich, Matthijs de Ligt to Man United could now become a reality with his former boss Erik ten Hag in charge of the Red Devils.
Matthijs de Ligt to Man United?
Manchester United have long been admirers of the talented center-back and wanted to sign him from Ajax back in 2019. However, with De Ligt choosing to join Cristiano Ronaldo and Co that time and United struggling to keep pace with the big boys the move never materialized. However, Erik ten Hag managing the Red Devils, who was also at the helm of Ajax knows Di Light well during their time together and could get the signing done as early as the upcoming summer.
While there is no public rift between Tuchel and De Ligt, it will be interesting how the situation develops between now and the end of the season. It is expected that Tuchel and De Ligt are having issues of their own on several terms.

Tuchel has previously claimed the club has no intention of selling the Dutchman, stating last month: “Matthijs came back injured from the national team and missed all pre-season.
“We played him a bit too early in the Super Cup, then he got seriously injured again and Min-Jae and Upa [Upamecano] were starting games. But of course, we’re planning with Matthijs, he is our player, a top player, and a top character.”
What could be decisive in De Ligt to Manchester United move?
De Ligt’s move to United will depend on several factors which include the future of both Tuchel and Ten Hag. It is believed that Manchester United will survey their options for a new manager if Ten Hag fails to deliver up to expectations which could be a decisive factor in De Light moving to United.
On the other hand, if Tuchel fails to deliver a trophy even his job is under the fire and could lead to a fresh start for De Ligt under a new manager next season. The center-back still has three-and-a-half years left on his contract but will decide his future depending upon the playing time offered to him by now and the end of the season.
