Bayern Munich edging closer to agreeing Nordi Mukiele deal with PSG

Bayern Munich are edging closer to signing defender Nordi Mukiele on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window.

This is as per reports from Fabrizio Romano, who has added that the Bavarians have told the Parisians they are willing to cover the player’s wages in full.

Bayern have been interested in Mukiele for a while now. The Frenchman played for RB Leipzig between 2018-22 and faced the Bavarian club multiple times during his time in Germany. The player, too, is keen on moving to the Allianz Arena and has expressed his desire for the deal to go through.

Nordi Mukiele came through the ranks at Laval FC, before earning a move to Montpellier HSC and subsequently RB Leipzig, for whom he made 146 appearances. He moved to PSG in 2022 for a fee in the region of €10 million and has made 35 appearances for the club since joining, and was a regular under former manager Christophe Galtier last season.

Mukiele primarily plays as a right sided full-back who can provide valuable attacking support with his overlapping runs. He is decent defensively, but his multi-faceted skillset is what makes him a unique profile. He has also made one appearance for France in a World Cup qualifying game back in 2021.

Bayern Munich already have Alphonso Davies manning their left flank and roping in a player of Mukiele’s calibre makes them even more formidable as a whole. Manager Thomas Tuchel is also known for his usage of attacking fullbacks in his tactical set ups so a player of the Frenchman’s ability is bound to do well, should the move go through.

As of now only a short-term deal until June 2024 has been tabled, with no possibility of a buy option mentioned in the deal.
