Barcelona want Joao Cancelo back
Spanish giants FC Barcelona have started business late this transfer window, but they are making big moves now. After securing Euro 2024 top scorer Dani Olmo, the Blaugrana are moving ahead to re-strengthen their defense. As per the famous journalist Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona will try to add Portuguese right-back Joao Cancelo back to their squad.
The 30-year-old fullback had an impressive loan spell with FC Barcelona last season, playing 42 games and contributing immensely to the back line. His loan spell ended and he is a Manchester City player again at this moment.
However, it is speculated that Cancelo’s career in Pep Guardiola’s team is finished. And, as per Romano, the Portuguese is waiting for Barcelona to come up with an offer to his present club. FC Barcelona sporting director Deco and his team are trying their best to offer a deal amid the signing of Spanish sensation Olmo and the Financial Fair Play rules they are tied in.
A loan deal looks possible knowing Barca’s tough economic situation, and as per Romano, Joao Cancelo’s move to FC Barcelona is in the early stages and is not finalized. Both Barca and Cancelo want the move to happen, but if an agreement is not reached, the Portuguese might join another club as he has decided to leave Manchester City.
FC Barcelona only have inexperienced Hector Fort and Julian Araujo as the natural right-backs and it has been often seen that star defenders Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde had to contribute as right-backs. So, Joao Cancelo’s arrival will be a big boost for Hansi Flick’s side.
