Barcelona 2:2 Atalanta Player Ratings: The Nerazzurri’s earned a hard-fought draw at Camp Nou

Barcelona were held to a 2-2 home draw with Atalanta in an open and thrilling football match at Camp Nou. The first half was all Braca as they pressed Atalanta high up the pitch but the Italian side stayed compact denying the hosts clear sight of goal.

Yamal had the best chance early in the second half when he tried to bend a shot into the far corner but Carnesecchi made a great save to deny him, while at the other end, Zappacosta had a goal from close range disallowed by VAR. Barcelona dominated most of the game but they had no incisiveness in the last third of the pitch, and thus the first half was goal less.

The second half started at the same sluggish pace as the first half but suddenly came to life in the 47th minute when Lamine Yamal took a low cross from Raphinha and put the ball into the back of the net. Atalanta responded almost immediately, leveling the score line in the 67th minute when Ederson left Gavi for the dance and scored a beautiful shot in the bottom right of the net. Blaugrana took the lead in the 72nd minute when Ronald Araujo headed home a Raphinha corner past Carnesecchi.

But Atalanta did not surrender and in the 79th minute, Mario Pasalic got a Marten de Roon pass to equalize the match. There were attempts by both sides in the last minutes but the match ended with a 2-2 draw. Here are Barcelona vs Atalanta player ratings.

Goalkeeper

Wojciech Szczesny (6.5/10)

Did made a few important saves especially on Retegui in the second half of the game. Could not do much about either goal but kept his cool. His distribution was good but not very impressive.

Defenders

Jules Kounde (6.7/10)

Atalanta enjoyed more success down his side in the second half after he put in a good first-half shift. A bit uncomfortable with Atalanta’s late attacking transitions but was good in individual duels.

Ronald Araujo (7.6/10)

The 25-year-old Uruguayan had a good first half and was at the wrong place at the wrong time in the second half. Ederson’s run for the first goal went unnoticed and this put Barcelona on the back foot. He had the best passing accuracy in the match with 97%.

Eric Garcia (6.6/10)

Strong at the back, and a genuine attacking force upfront. His aerial duels demonstrated how he outjumps his opponents in the box. But he was wrong placed for the second goal of Atalanta.

Alex Balde (6.6/10)

Offered width on the left side and combined planned well with Yamal and Pedri. Sustainable defense could have tracked back better during the counter. Rarely seen in the opposition half throughout the game.

Midfielders

Frenkie de Jong (6.4/10)

Set the pace and dominated the game in the middle of the park. He was able to maintain press resistance in the build-up to the match for Barcelona but Atalanta was able to deny him in the last ten minutes of the match.

Gavi (7/10)

Was again very determined as he has always been but was outclassed too easily by Ederson in the build-up to Atalanta’s first goal. Kept on trying but was substituted after he failed to make his presence felt.

Pedri (6.4/10)

An active figure in the central area of the park and good interplay with the forward line. Made some half opportunities but was never able to penetrate past Atalanta’s backline regularly.

Forwards

Lamine Yamal (8.5/10)

Barcelona’s best attacker on the night. Scored the first goal of the match with a well-placed shot and later. The young Spanish winger had forced Atalanta’s defenders into a lot of uncomfortable situations with his dribbling ability. Deserved more for his efforts.

Robert Lewandowski (6.3/10)

Did his best to engage and provide an attacking edge for most of the match. Got into a couple of half-dangerous positions but could not pose a telling threat. Replaced in the second half of the match.

Raphinha (9/10)

The Brazilian winger was involved in the creation of the first goal for Yamal and the second one for Araujo through a header. A steady creative presence but he fell off a tad at the end.

Substitutes

Pau Cubarsi (6/10)

The young Spanish defender came on to the field to provide some fresh leg in the defensive half.

Ferran Torres (6/10)

Torres made a few good passes in the opposition half and had an accuarte longball in the box as well.

Fermin Lopez (6/10)

Marc Casado (N/A)

Pau Victor (N/A)

Manager

Hans-Dieter Flick (6.5/10)

His side was dominating the big parts of the game, still, they were punished for the loss of concentration and missed opportunities. The changes he made in the field did not produce significant influence.

Goalkeeper

Marco Carnesecchi (7.8/10)

Did some important interventions, especially in the first half to stop Lamine Yamal. Little he could do about either Barcelona goal but was commanding in his area and had some good throws.

Defenders

Davide Zappacoasta (7.3/10)

A constant figure on the right line, a defensive wall, and an attacking pillar. He had one goal ruled offside by VAR, but his runs down the flank did not allow Balde to have a peace of mind throughout the game.

Sead Kolasinac (7.2/10)

Had problems managing Barcelona’s attacking orientation, however, they made some key cleanup movements. He lost Araujo for the second goal which was a very bad mistake from his end.

Isak Hien (6.5/10)

A solid outing from the 26-year-old Swedish center-back. Managed to read the game well and make significant interventions sometimes was trapped by Yamal’s trick.

Berat Djimsiti (6/10)

Had difficulty handling Raphinha’s pace and delivery. Did well going forward but showed some of the bad positioning at various times.

Raoul Bellanova (7.2/10)

Bellanova had a great game, played 77 minutes, and had a pass accuracy of 95%. Did well going forward to create space for his teammates.

Midfielders

Marten de Roon (7.3/10)

The 33-year-old Dutch midfielder was good at regaining the ball and solid when out of possession. A few shots from a distance but was not accurate.

Mario Pasalic (7.4/10)

Right place, and right time for the equalizer in the 79th minute. Connected nicely with Koopmeiners throughout the game and was always a menace in the attacking half.

Ederson (7.6/10)

Probably Atalanta’s main midfielder, playing an immense amount of minutes and even providing a defensive contribution. Helped the equalizer with a well-timed ball to Pasalic.

Forwards

Charles De Ketelaere (6.5/10)

Particularly good in attack, he demonstrated good skill on the field with good instances of dummy runs and smart running. Was involved in a build-up to several potential attacks and came close to helping Ederson in the first half. The final third decision-making could have been better at times, nevertheless, his stamina and creativity troubled Barcelona’s defense line.

Mateo Retegui (7/10)

His hold-up play created pressure towards Barcelona’s half, had Atalanta been closer he could have scored from a brilliant header which was somehow saved. Didn’t score, but his runs were good enough to open space for other players to operate from.

Substitutes

Giorgio Scalvini (6.6/10)

Juan Cuadrado (6.5/10)

Matteo Ruggeri (6.4/10)

Nicolo Zaniolo (6/10)

Marco Brescianini (N/A)

Manager

Gian Piero Gasperini (7.5/10)

His team demonstrated good agility and good maneuverability. Substituting wisely, Gasperini kept Atalanta in contention for the full 90 minutes and fully deserved a draw.
