Barcelona President Calls for Barcelona vs Real Madrid Replay!
Barcelona president Joan Laporta spoke on Barcelona’s controversial loss in the El Clasico and said he may request a Barcelona vs Real Madrid replay if VAR is found wrong to disallow Lamine Yamal’s goal.
Why did Barcelona President say about the Barcelona vs Real Madrid Replay?
FC Barcelona’s controversial loss in the El Clasico has raged a fiery debate between La Liga followers as many believe a goal scored by Lamine Yamal was wrongfully disallowed by VAR. The incident came from a Barcelona corner in the first half as Lamine Yamal hooked the cross into Madrid’s goal. The ball then seemingly made its way into the goal where Los Blancos keeper Lunin tried to push the ball out.
With camera angles failing to conclusively suggest if the ball had completely gone in and the lack of goal-line technology in LaLiga, the goal was eventually disallowed by VAR. This denial of the goal ended up decisive as La Blaugrana went on to lose the Clasico to Real Madrid 3-2. Speaking about the incident Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed his displeasure and said that the club hadn’t ruled out requesting a Barcelona vs Real Madrid replay if VAR was found to have disallowed the goal wrongfully.
In a video released by FC Barcelona, Laporta said “If, after analyzing these documents, the club finds that there was an error in estimating the shot – which we believe it is – we will initiate all appropriate measures to reverse the situation without excluding the necessary judicial proceedings.”
“If it is confirmed that it was a legal goal – as we believe it is – we will go further and ask for a replay, as happened in a European match due to a VAR error.”
This isn’t the first time such an incident has taken place in La Liga due to the lack of goal-line technology, however, a replay has never been granted. Even if La Blaugrana demands a FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid replay, it is unlikely that the match will take place.
Real Madrid are now in pole position to win LaLiga:
Real Madrid’s last-minute victory against FC Barcelona was almost the final nail in La Blaugrana’s title chase. With the loss, Barcelona now find themselves 11 points behind Real Madrid with only 6 matchdays to go in the 23/24 campaign. If Real Madrid holds on, they will win their 36th La Liga title, an unprecedented feat.
