Aymen Barkok was left with facial injuries while on a night out
Morocco international Aymen Barkok, currently on loan at Bundesliga 2 club Hertha Berlin from FSV Mainz, was on the receiving end of a physical assault at a bar in the German capital. Barkok, 25, was enjoying himself on a night out.
However, he was on the receiving end of an unfortunate physical attack. The attacking midfielder suffered significant facial injuries as a result. The Morocco international had to be rushed to the hospital and will now undergo surgery. As per talkSPORT, Barkok will miss the remainder of the campaign as he aims to recover from the physical damages and the mental trauma.
The Moroccan midfielder has made 13 appearances for Hertha after joining the club on loan in January. He has scored one goal for the Berlin-based outfit. Hertha Berlin extended their support to the player, writing in a social media statement:
“We were horrified to learn yesterday that Aymen Barkok was physically assaulted in a Berlin bar during the night from Saturday to Sunday and had to be taken to hospital with facial injuries. Aymen had a successful operation yesterday, Sunday, but will not be available to us for the time being. We wish you a speedy recovery, Aymen! We are thinking of you.”
Aymen Barkok injury: player’s parent club FSV Mainz release statement
Apart from FSV Mainz, Aaymen Barkok’s parent club FSV Mainz also issued a social media statement, supporting the player at his time of distress. Mainz’s message of solidarity and well-wishes read:
“The thoughts of everyone at 1. FSV Mainz 05 are with midfielder Aymen Barkok, who is recovering after an attack in a Berlin bar on Saturday night. Get well soon, Aymen.”
Barkok has so far made 40 appearances for Mainz, scoring twice and providing two assists. The attacking midfielder represented Germany’s youth teams but made his senior international debut for Morocco and has so far played 18 matches for the Atlas Lions.
