Defender Axel Tuanzebe to play for Congo after England snub
Former Man United defender, Axel Tuanzebe, officially announced he will represent Democratic Republic of Congo after being repeatedly snubbed by the England National football team and not receiving a call up for the Three Lions.
Axel Tuanzebe: An inevitable switch of allegiance from England to DR Congo
Axel Tuanzebe burst onto the scene for Manchester United when he was quite young. His performances at United’s youth teams and his appearances for the Red Devils occasionally offered everybody glimpses of his talent earning him several call ups to England U-19s and England U-21.
However, years later the talented Axel Tuanzebe, now 26, still hasn’t earned a call up to the senior England national football team. Now playing his trade for Ipswich Town in the Championship, it seems that Axel Tuanzebe is tired of the constant snubs by the English national team and officially switched his allegiances to the Democratic Republic of Congo. The national coach of DR Congo, Sebastian Desabre, seems to have an important role in influencing Axel Tuanzebe’s decision as the defender shared an image of him holding the Congo shirt with the gaffer.
Fans of the former Man United player were quite excited by the announcement and are eager to see the defender feature in an international game soon. Tuanzebe will now represent the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and also the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
