Atlético Madrid looking to sign Javi Guerra from Valencia
Amid the rumours of Julian Alvarez joining Atletico Madrid, the club is in advanced talks to sign Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra. An agreement has been reached with a transfer fee of around 25 million euros along with add-ons. The agreement also includes a sell-on clause of around 15 percent for Valencia.
If this sale happens, Guerra’s previous club, Villareal, will receive 30 percent of the transfer fee agreed. There are reports that the 21-year-old did not train with Valencia on Tuesday, as a move could be on the cards.
Atletico has already had impactful talks with Chelsea regarding the transfer of Conor Gallagher, who rejected several renewal offers from the Blues in recent months. This transfer could create a conundrum for Los Rojiblancos, which has been preparing for Guerra to Madrid this week.
There have been interest from other clubs as well. Girona and Real Sociedad have shown interest in the player this summer. Girona could be the ideal option, as it can also offer Champions League football in the upcoming season.
Atheltico might look to adjust both of them in the midfield, but it would mean an exit for Thomas Lemar or Arthur Vermeen. The former is yet to gain his starting spot back in the squad after an injury-wrecked 2023–24 campaign.
The club is also looking for a centre-back to boost the defence, and after Feyenoord’s rejection of David Hancko, eyes are on Aymeric Laporte. Laporte has been in the limelight after an excellent European Championship with Spain. His physical ability and elegant passing would be outstanding for Simione to maintain the 3-5-2 formation.
