Aston Villa vs West Ham United Player Ratings: Paqueta Shines Despite Late Comeback by Villa

Aston Villa looked all but out of the FA Cup before they were gifted a corner for nothing, and their fortunes changed. The home side managed to pull off a 2-1 win over West Ham United and get into the 4th round.

Lucas Paqueta gave the away side the lead early in the first half before Amadou Onana scored the equalizer in the 71st minute. Morgan Rogers managed to turn things around 5 minutes later and seal a 2-1 win.

Goalkeeper

Robin Olsen – 6: Wrong footed for the opening goal of the match, but there was little he could do about it.

Defenders

Matty Cash – 7: Did his best to stop the opening goal, but the shot was inch-perfect.

Enzri Konsa – 7: Got nutmegged for the first goal and he should have done better to track the run from Paqueta.

Tyrone Mings – 6.5: Rather poor the whole game and was never comfortable on the ball. Kept playing it safe and stayed back the whole match.

Ian Maatsen – 7.5: He did well in the whole game but could have done better in attack. His shots were poor and he should have closed down Summerville quickly for the West Ham goal.

Midfielders

Boubacar Kamara – 7.5: Played 72 minutes and was their best player until the took the lead. He was losing the ball a lot but it was all because he was the only one taking the risk today.

Ross Barkley – 6: Played just 21 minutes before he was injured off the ball and had to be taken off.

Leon Bailey – 6: Played 72 minutes but never managed to do much today. He was playing it safe and did not get a shot on target.

Youri Tielemans – 7: Played the whole match and was controlling the pace when they had the ball. He failed to get a shot on target despite getting a lot of space to work with around the box.

Morgan Rogers – 7.5: He scored the winner after a brilliant late run into the box. Played the whole match and was chasing the ball full time.

Forwards

Ollie Watkins – 6.5: Hardly got space to shoot today as he had a West Ham player on him all the time. He still managed to get the assist for the game-winning goal.

Substitutes

Amadou Onana – 7.5

Kosta Nedeljković – 6

Emiliano Buendía – 6

Jacob Ramsey – 6.5

Manager

Goalkeeper

Lukas Fabianski – 7: Did well every time he was called into action today. Nothing he could do about the goals.

Defenders

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5.5: Never looked comfortable today and gave away a silly penalty in the stoppage time of the second half.

Konstantinos Mavropanos – 5: Slow and just not good enough today. Tried his best to stop a counter but that was the only significant display.

Max Kilman – 6.5: Got on the toes of Watkins and ensured that the Aston Villa star got no chance to shoot today.

Oliver Scarles – 6: He was excellent on his FA Cup debut for the club and did better than expected. He was on set-piece duty as well and managed to deliver some good crosses.

Midfielders

Tomas Soucek – 5.5: Played the full game but hardly got on the ball. Kept chasing the ball but never got close to it.

Edson Alvarez – 7: Lively at both ends of the pitch but never looked comfortable on the ball. Won just one ground duel in the entire match.

Crysencio Summerville – 7.5: He played just the first half but was West Ham’s second-best player. Got the assist for the goal before he pulled his hamstring and was limping around.

Mohammed Kudus – 6.5: He was unable to do much today and it was hardly his best game. He was shooting from range, but never came close to scoring.

Lucas Paqueta – 8.5: He failed to score from the first chance in the game but did not have to wait long for the opening goal. He was up and down the left flank today and helped out at both ends.

Forward

Niklas Fullkrug – 6: Did not have a lot to do in the opening 13 minutes and got injured while chasing the ball. His hamstring injury is set to see him out for some time.

Substitutes

Danny Ings – 6

Vladimír Coufal – 6

Aaron Cresswell – 6

Carlos Soler – 6

Luis Guilherme – 5

Manager

Graham Potter – 7: Not much was expected from him today as he was appointed yesterday. However, he got his tactics spot on for 70 minutes, but the 5 minutes of bad luck saw them lose the game.
