Aston Villa vs Tottenham player ratings as Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski impress in 4-0 win

Tottenham took a huge step towards finishing in the top 4 this season with a 4-0 win over Aston Villa at the Villa Park. The North London side socred all their goals in the second half despite losing their key defender, Micky van de Ven, right after the break.

James Maddison opened the scoring in the 50th minute before Brenan Johnson doubled the lead three minutes later. The game quickly turned into 10 v 11 as John McGinn was sent off for the home side right after the hour mark.

The match looked set for a 2-0 finish, but Heung-Min Son had other plans. He scored in the 91st minute before assisting Timo Werner for the 4th goal of the game in the 94th minute.

Here are the player ratings for the game:

Emiliano Martínez – 6 | Nothing much he could do for the first three goals but could have done a lot more for the Timo Werner srike. Had very little to do defensively and was just being used to keep possession by the home side.

Matty Cash – 6 | Pick of the defenders today, but he was playing in an advanced role as a right wing-back more than a right-back until the manager changed the formation at the hour mark.

Ezri Konsa – 5 | His poor pass led to Tottenham’s second goal, and that sealed the win for the away side.

Clement Lenglet – 5.5 | The Barcelona loanee was decent compared to the others in the backline, but that was not enough for Unai Emery, and he was hooked off just before the hour mark.

Pau Torres – 5 | Aston Villa fans would be looking back at this game and thanking the Spaniard for his performance as it helped keep the scoreline decent. However, he could have done a lot more for the two goals they conceded.

Lucas Digne – 5 | Not an outing to remember for the Frenchman as he was not able to do much in attack or defense. He was taken off for Alex Moreno before the hour mark.

John McGinn – 5 | He was having a decent game but then lost it when Tottenham were dominating possession while being 2-0 up. He lashed out at Destiny Udogie, got sent off and ended any chance of a comeback for Aston Villa.

Douglas Luiz – 7 | The only Aston Villa star who was able to get one over the opponents today. He did well in midfield against Bissouma, Sarr and Maddison but could not do much in attack.

Youri Tielemans – 6 | The Belgian was also to blame for the second goal, as he was caught flat footed when Konsa passed the ball to him.

Leon Bailey – 6 | A bit selfish in attack when he could have passed the ball several times to a teammate inside the box.

Ollie Watkins – 6.5 | The striker was ineffective in attack, had just one shot in the entire game and that too was blocked.

Alex Moreno – 6 | Came on to replace Digne but did not do anything special, just like the Frenchman.

Nicolo Zaniolo – 5 | Came on as a substitute at 2-0 down, but nothing changed for the home side.

Moussa Diaby – 5 | Came on as a substitute at 2-0 down, but nothing changed for the home side.

Diego Carlos – 5 | Came on for the final minutes and could not do much as Tottenham went on to score two more.

Tim Iroegbunam – 5 | Came on as a substitute for Leon Bailey, but hardly made a change.

Tottenham player rating:

Pedro Porro and Son

Guglielmo Vicario – 8 | Just had one same to make in the game and was untroubled by the Aston Villa attack.

Pedro Porro – 8 | A solid outing on his return from injury and showed the team exactly what they needed.

Cristian Romero – 8 | Another solid outing for the Argentine who has been their best defender this season.

Micky van de Ven — 7.5 | He was brilliant in the first half but got injured just minutes into the second half while defending a shot from Leon Bailey and had to go off.

Destiny Udogie – 8 | Was up and down on the right flank and gave it his all for the away side.

Yves Bissouma – 7 | Had trouble dealing with Douglas Luiz, but hardly put a foot wrong otherwise.

Pape Matar Sarr – 8 | The assist for the first goal was simply brilliant and it would be hard for any player in the Premier League to top that this week.

Dejan Kulusevski – 8.5 | The Swede produced another superb performance, which will sadly go under the radar as he only managed one assist, while all other attackers scored.

James Maddison – 8.5 | The heart of the Spurs attack and he was getting the attack ticking all the time. He scored the opener and that helped them get the grip in the Game.

Brennan Johnson – 8 | Scored from his only shot on target and was making things hard for Cash and Konsa on the right side.

Heung-min Son – 8.5 | A captain’s display for Son once again as he scored once and assisted twice. Kept going until the very end of the game.

Radu Drăguşin – 7.5 | Came on as a substitute early in the second half and managed to keep things calm at the back.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 7 | Came on as a substitute at 2-0 up, and helped keep things going in the midfield.

Timo Werner – 7.5 | Scored the final goal of the game to seal the well deserved win for Tottenham.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – 5 | Hardly had anything to do after coming on for the final minutes.
