Premier League football returns this weekend with the Round four after the International break and the seventh-placed Aston Villa will take on Everton at Villa Park. They have picked up six points from their first three games and under Unai Emery are enjoying a strong start to what promises to be a challenging season. They are definitely eyeing a coveted place in the Champions League spot as Villa’s ambitions have grown since Emery took over and last season was their best-ever Premier League finish at fourth.

With the Champions League football part of the weekly schedule the club will need to shuffle its players to meet the demands as handling the pressure from Europe’s elite clubs will not be easy. Squad rotation will be essential for a consistent run and compete at the top level across all competitions. Eyes will be on the young Colombian striker, John Duran, who has caught the fans’ attention with two goals in three games this season. Last season Ollie Watkins led the charge in front of goal but Duran’s early form has given Emery something to think about in terms of team selection.

On the other hand, Everton has had a poor start to their season as they are at the bottom of the table after the opening three games, where they have not managed to secure just a single point. Their concern have been the defence as conceding ten goals is a dangerous trait going forward into the season. Manager, Sean Dyche faces mounting pressure as team’s poor performances continue to raise questions.

Dyche is a manager who is sometimes overly offensive with his approach but last season with his pragmatism helped the toffees avoid relegation. The fans were frustrated with him due to the lack of creativity and dynamism in the team’s play. The things which adds up to to his misery has been the absence of key players in the defence and also the departure of influential midfielder Amadou Onana to Aston Villa in the summer.

After a good start to the season, Emery’s side will look to continue their form against the toffees in the absence of Leon Baily, Matty Cash, and Diego Carlos. The team will require to be less dependent on the likes of Ollie Watkins and Amadou Onana to be able to flourish across all competitions. Jaden Philogene and Robin Olsen are doubtful for the clash with knock while Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara remain on the sidelines.

The toffees will definitely look for a turnaround from this point of the season as they the manager can soon face the axe if the performance does not improve. A positive for them has been the emergence of Tim Iroegbunam, who have become one of the bright spots in the club’s early fixtures. He has impressed with his energy, composure, and ability to carry the ball forward offering hope for the underperforming side. For this match Jarrad Branthwaite is expected to return but is not yet fit while new signing Armand Broja is also available. Seamus Coleman will be on the sidelines with an injury picked up in the Republic of Ireland’s defeat to England.
