Aston Villa targets Liverpool’s Gomez and Chelsea’s Chalobah in late transfer push
Aston Villa are making a late push to bolster their squad ahead of the summer transfer deadline with Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and Liverpool’s Joe Gomez emerging as top targets.
Unai Emery who is keen to strengthen his squad for the upcoming Champions League campaign is particularly focused on adding a versatile defender to replace Moussa Diaby who recently departed for Al Ittihad.
Gomez was notably absent from Liverpool’s squad in their Premier League opener against Ipswich Town and is reportedly considering his future at Anfield. With several English clubs showing interest, Villa are hoping to lure the 27-year-old to Birmingham.
Similarly, Chalobah has been sidelined at Chelsea as the club seeks to sell him, with a price tag set between £25 million and £30 million. Both defenders are valued for their ability to cover multiple positions in the backline – A trait Emery highly regards.
In addition to defensive reinforcements Villa also explored a move for Joao Felix but missed out as the Portuguese forward looks set to rejoin Chelsea. Villa are now considering other options including a potential move for Raheem Sterling although discussions remain at an early stage.
