Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United a.e.t. (3-5 pens): Player Ratings as the Gunners crash out after penalty shootout defeat
Arsenal hosted Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium in Round 3 of the FA Cup on Sunday, January 12 and drew 1-1 in 90 minutes, but the Red Devils won 5-3 on penalties to progress.
The first half saw the Gunners keep the marginally ball longer than the Red Devils but they lacked accuracy in front of goal. Arsenal attempted four shots but none of those were on target in the first period as they clearly looked like they needed to be more clinical. Manchester United, on the other hand, attempted three shots with two of those on target.
Alejandro Garnacho set up Bruno Fernandes for the visitors’ first goal after 52 minutes. However, that lead was shortl-lived as Gabriel equalized for Arsenal in the 63rd minute. Neither team could alter the score as the game went into extra-time, with the first half of ET ending 1-1.
The second half of ET brought more of the same as neither side managed to score, with the game entering penalties. Manchester United did extremely well to convert all five of their kicks, while Kai Havertz missed for Arsenal as they crashed out.
