Arsenal Secures Long-Term Commitment of Takehiro Tomiyasu

In a significant development for Arsenal, defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is poised to ink a new extended contract with the club. Tomiyasu’s existing deal, set to conclude in 2025 with an optional 12-month extension, is now subject to fresh negotiations initiated by Arsenal in November.

The Japanese international, who has showcased stellar performances throughout the current season, recently attracted interest from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window. However, Arsenal swiftly communicated their intent to retain Takehiro Tomiyasu, emphasizing his integral role within the squad.

While the 25-year-old has been away on national duty at the Asian Cup for the past four weeks, Arsenal anticipates his return for the upcoming clash against West Ham this weekend. This is especially timely given Oleksandr Zinchenko’s halftime departure due to a calf injury in the recent victory over Liverpool.

Versatile across the defensive line, Tomiyasu’s ability to cover various positions has been lauded by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. The coach expressed confidence in Tomiyasu’s potential, highlighting him as a unique asset capable of playing in any defensive role or formation.

Arteta stated earlier in the season,

“If physically, Tomi is at his best, we’re going to have a player that is so important for us.”

Tomiyasu, signed for £16 million from Serie A side Bologna in the summer of 2021, has become an indispensable figure for the club.

Amidst contract negotiations, Tomiyasu has affirmed his contentment at Arsenal, describing the club as his “home” and expressing a strong sense of belonging within the team.

The impending contract extension solidifies Arsenal’s commitment to retaining key players and building a competitive squad for future campaigns.
