What is Antonio Rudiger’s plan to stop Kylian Mbappe if they meet in the Champions League final?
Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger has set his eyes on Kylian Mbappe already. To materialise his desire, the German player should ensure that his side can overcome Bayern Munich in the semifinal.
On the other hand, Kylian Mbappe and his Paris Saint-Germain force have to beat Borussia Dortmund. Rudiger admitted that he has the plot running in his head about how to deal with the French striker.
“If we face him in the final, we’ll beat him,” Rudiger said via Goal. “And if he passes [i.e. dribbles] me, I’ll smash him.” Los Blancos squad is travelling to Bavaria for the first leg match at the Allianz Stadium.
Antonio Rudiger praised Mbappe as ‘one of the best’
The second leg would be played at Santiago Bernabeu a week later. Rudiger however, acknowledged the rumours about Mbappe heading for Madrid next season. The 2018 World Cup champions said that the rumours never surprise him considering Madrid’s reputation.
“The best players in history have always come to Real Madrid,” Rudiger added. “He’s one of the best players in the world, so it would be a good match.” Later on, the former Chelsea player jokes about Mbappe’s imminent arrival to Santiago Bernabeu.
“Who says that he’s (Mbappe) coming, it’s not official,” Rudiger said. Madrid and Bayern squaring off in the Champions League semifinal is not something new. Back in 2018, both teams met in the big four rounds with the Spanish representative winning the two-legged games.
Madrid beat Bayern 2-1 in the first leg and drew 2-2 in the second leg at Santiago Bernabeu. Los Blancos eventually became champions after beating Liverpool in the final that year in Kyiv.
