Angel Di Maria to Inter Miami? All you need to know
Angel di Maria is reportedly set to be the next former teammate to link up with Lionel Messi in the MLS at Inter Miami. The Argentine will not be joining this season but will move to the United States at the end of the calendar year.
As per a report in A Bola, Di Maria will be leaving Benfica at the end of the season. The winger has already made a decision and will be heading back to Argentina.
He is set to join Rosario Central on a six-month deal after playing at the Copa America. The former Real Madrid star has already been threatened by the fans of the Argentine that he is not welcome back.
A package and a note were left outside Di María’s home in Rosario by the Ultras of Rosario Central. The note read: “Tell your son Ángel not to come back to Rosario because we will kill a family member.”
However, Di Maria is determined to play for his childhood club again and is eyeing a short deal. He admitted that the threat was bone-chilling and said: “My parents and my sisters are (in Rosario). What’s happening there really affects me, but my desire to return will always remain.”
While A Bola claim that Di Maria will be heading to Inter Miami next season, tata Martino poured cold water on any move this season. The Argentine was linked with a switch this summer but the MLS side’s boss said:
“I echo everything that is said and commented on. I repeat once again, there is no need for me to talk about the qualities that Angel [Di Maria] has. But, honestly and beyond the fact that there are almost two months to go before the transfer window reopens, I’m struggling to find a way for Inter Miami to sign him. I can’t think of any, so I don’t have much more to say.”
Di Maria is already in the twilight of his career and has revealed that he will be calling it time on his international career after Copa America 2024. He said on Instagram:
“The Copa America will be the last time I wear the Argentine shirt, with all the pain of the soul and feeling a lump in my throat I say goodbye to the most beautiful thing that happened to me in my career, dress it, sweat it and FEEL it with all my pride.”
