“I’m not here to back him”- Andre Onana comments on Erik ten Hag amid rumours of a potential sacking
Manchester United manager Andre Onana has addressed speculations regarding Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United future. Reports suggest United will sack Ten Hag after the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Onana, who also played under Ten Hag at Ajax, has now reflected on the matter. He lauded Ten Hag’s tactical acumen. The Cameroonian shot-stopper also claimed that he wasn’t backing Ten Hag. Onana feels the Dutchman is big enough himself to do so. Onana said (via GOAL):
“He’s a good guy, a good coach. Tactically he’s very good, and he showed it last season. I was not here last season and they got top four. This season a lot of things happened. I’m not here to back him. He is big enough to back himself, but he is a really good guy, he is a positive coach and tactically he’s good.”
Manchester United have endured a nightmarish campaign this season. United finished eighth in the league, their worst finish of the Premier League era. They still have the chance to win a trophy against City in the cup final. However, as per reports, Ten Hag will be sacked. Names like Kieran McKenna and Thomas Tuchel have been linked with the Old Trafford job.
Erik ten Hag provides Manchester United squad update ahead of FA Cup final
Ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City, Erik ten Hag reported that Harry Maguire will miss the game. The Dutchman updated that players Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount are available. He said (via Manchester United’s website):
“Harry Maguire is unavailable but the rest, all the players you mentioned [Lindelof, Mount and Martial], they are – I think – available. We have, tomorrow, final training and then we have final decisions. But, as I oversee it now, it looks good.”
Ten Hag added that Maguire’s injury is not a scare for the Euros. Rather, the central defender hasn’t healed as he was expected to.
