Spain’s star forward suffered a harrowing injury to his knee in Atletico’s defeat to Sevilla on matchday 24 in LaLiga. Morata entered a 50-50 duel with Sevilla’s midfielder Boubakary Soumaré to win a ball in no man’s land. Morata was caught by Boubakary as he tried to escape the incoming midfielder’s challenge. The striker suffered a serious blow to his knee and was barely able to limp off the pitch. Medical tests revealed that Morata had sprained the internal lateral ligament in his right knee and suffered a bone contusion.
This season, Alvaro Morata has scored 13 goals in LaLiga and is the joint-top goalscorer in the Champions League. His 5 goals in 6 matches in the UCL helped Atletico secure top spot in their group.
