Al-Ahli’s summer signing already linked with a move away from Saudi Pro League
According to Spanish outlet EFE Deportes, Al-Ahli midfielder Gabri Veiga could be on his way out of the Saudi Pro League despite only moving there last summer.
Despite interest from clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona, promising youngster Veiga left Celta Vigo to join Al-Ahli last summer. The 21-year-old’s move was met with plenty of criticism from the football world, including legends like Toni Kroos.
Veiga, however, clarified his stance, saying in an interview with SPORT:
“I understand that everyone has their opinion, but there were other decisions that tipped the balance. Among all the options, I think it was the one that allowed me to continue growing as a footballer and mature in a league that is growing a lot.”
As per EFE Deportes, however, it appears Veiga could leave the league soon, initially on loan. Celta Vigo were interested in bringing the Spanish midfielder back on loan in November until the end of the season. Celta Vigo are struggling at 17th in La Liga and bringing back Veiga could help them in the relegation battle.

Veiga has made 17 appearances across competitions for Al-Ahli this season, scoring four goals and providing four assists. While he started off slow, the youngster seems to have become a key member of Matthias Jaissle’s side.
Al-Ahli is currently third in the Saudi Pro League table, 13 points behind leaders Al-Hilal. Hence, they might want to hold on to Veiga at least until the end of the season.
