Sporting 1-5 Arsenal: Player Ratings as five scorers put the hosts to the sword in a resounding win for the Gunners

Sporting CP hosted Arsenal at the Jose Alvalade Stadium in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, November 26 and fell to a humiliating 5-1 defeat against the Gunners.

Arsenal made an electric start as Gabriel Martinelli put them 1-0 up just seven minutes into the contest. Kai Havertz then doubled the Gunners’ lead in the 22^nd minute as they continued to dominate and push Sporting onto the backfoot. Gabriel scored to make it 3-0 just before half-time.

However, it looked as though the hosts would fight back as Goncalo Inacio made it 3-1 just two minutes after the restart. That was their only respite as Bukayo Saka’s penalty in the 65^th minute restored the visitors’ three-goal cushion. Leandro Trossard then scored a late goal to complete the rout.

Franco Israel – 6.5/10

Despite making four saves for Sporting, he ended up on the wrong side of a big scoreline.

Jeremiah St. Juste – 5.5/10

St. Juste had a poor game at the back for his team.

Ousmane Diomande – 5/10

Diomande picked up an early yellow card and conceded a penalty that virtually killed the game for his team.

Goncalo Inacio – 7/10

Inacio scored a lovely header for his team’s only goal of the night. He also won five duels.

Quenda had an average game for his team on the right flank.

Morten Hjulmand – 7/10

The Sporting captain played three key passes, attempted two shots on target and also won four duels.

Hidemasa Morita – 6.5/10

Morita had a decent game in midfield and was subbed off in the second period.

Maximiliano Araujo – 6.5/10

Araujo started on the left flank and could not make an impact on the proceedings for his team.

Trincao had a good game for his team as he played two key passes, including one assist. He won all six of his duels as well.

Edwards played a decent game but could not impact Sporting’s cause in the final third.

Viktor Gyokeres – 6.5/10

Having bagged a hat-trick against Arsenal’s rivals Manchester City, the Swede was nowhere to be seen against the Gunners.

He replaced Araujo but could not make an impact on the proceedings.

He replaced Edwards but could not affect the match much after coming onto the pitch.

Raya looked sharp for Arsenal and made eight saves but was unlucky to lose out on a clean sheet.

Saliba was solid at the back for the Gunners as he won six duels, making four clearances and two interceptions.

Gabriel scored to make it 3-0 with a towering header. He also won two duels, making three clearances and two interceptions.

The Italian had a good game for the Gunners on their left flank.
