FPL mania has swept the globe once again. Millions are locked in fierce competition for virtual dominance. Workplaces and social groups have transformed into battlegrounds as managers vie for supremacy.
Midfielders are the main element of any successful FPL side. They are the playmakers, the goal scorers, the match-winners. A midfield bursting with talent can be the difference between glory and obscurity. Constructing a midfield capable of giving high returns is crucial for those aiming to conquer their leagues. With astute choices and a dash of luck, your midfield can be what drives your FPL team to victory.
As the Premier League season kicks off, several factors must be weighed carefully when selecting midfielders. Pre-season displays, creativity, goal threat, and the impact of new arrivals all influence the decision-making process. Additionally, scrutinizing the fixture list is essential to maximize the potential of your midfield picks. SportsDunia is here to guide you in identifying the standout midfielders to reinforce your squad from the start.

#1 Mo Salah

Mo Salah remains a fixture in many FPL squads for the 2024/25 season. Priced at £12.5m and currently owned by 35.7% of managers, the Egyptian King’s appeal is undeniable. While his output dipped slightly compared to previous campaigns, he still amassed an impressive 200+ points, averaging a solid 6.6 per game. Salah’s consistent goal threat, creation of high-quality chances, and penalty-taking responsibilities make him a reliable FPL asset. The arrival of Arne Slot as Liverpool’s manager introduces an element of uncertainty. However, given Salah’s proven track and Liverpool’s attacking pedigree, he’s likely to deliver another strong season. Slot’s style for attacking football bodes well for those who have kept him in their teams. Additionally, Liverpool’s first few fixtures are on the easier side so expect Salah to feast.

#2 Son Heung Min

Son Heung-min enjoyed a resurgence last season after a poor 2022/23 proving he can thrive without Harry Kane. Averaging a solid 6.1 points per game, the South Korean showcased both his goal-scoring prowess and improved creative ability. However, Son’s output is solid but he tends to perform in patches, and Tottenham’s overall attacking quality remains a question mark despite Ange Postecoglou’s attacking philosophy. Priced at £10m and owned by 11.5% of managers, Son is a tempting option. How he plays alongside new Spurs recruit Dominic Solanke will be pivotal and exciting to watch.

#3 Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon had his breakthrough season last term, as he racked up an impressive 11 goals and 10 assists. He was a mainstay in Eddie Howe’s team starting 34 games, basically pretty much every match he was fit to play. Therefore he is once again believed to be a nailed on starter and is on some set-pieces too. The Magpies are also a great attacking team, having scored the fourth most goals last season. They couldn’t ask for a better fixture from an attacking point of view as they come up against newly promoted Southampton. Gordon has a great partnership with Alexander Isak and expect the Englishman like the Swede to fire heavily. He is available at £7.5m in FPL.

#4 Antoine Semenyo

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo has been reclassified from forward to midfielder, and he is actually looking like a great option at his price point of £5.5m. He scored eight goals and managed four assists last season, starting 25 games and looked extremely bright when he played. The Ghanaian seemed to have earned the trust of Andoni Iraola, where he played the full 90 minutes in the last five league games. Bournemouth are a much improved side under Iraola. They finished a respectable 12th, and play much more attacking football. Semenyo is one of the best midfield options at £5.5m, as he looks nailed to start and his stats are impressive for his price too. The Cherries have some good fixtures to start the season, playing all of Nottingham Forest (a), Newcastle United (H), Everton (a), Southampton (H) and Leicester City (a) in the first seven.

#5 Andreas Pereira

Fulham’s Andreas Pereira is a solid option in the budget range, coming in at a price point of £5.5m. The Fulham midfielder offers goals and assists. He netted three times last season with nine assists, and played a very crucial role for Fulham. With Willian set to leave Craven Cottage, Pereira is expected to take over all set-piece duties, including penalties. The only issue here is the arrival of Emile Smith-Rowe who is expected to play in a similar position if he can prove his fitness. This could reduce Pereira’s expected minutes, while the Brazilian has been linked with a move away from the club. The Cottagers actually have some really good fixtures in the first 10. They come up against Leicester (H), Ipswich (a), West Ham (H), Newcastle (H), Forest (a) and Brentford (H), which means the Brazilian could be set for high returns.
