3 things we learnt from Manchester United’s Community Shield loss to Manchester City

#1 Alejandro Garnacho is a gem that United need to safeguard

Alejandro Garnacho came on at around the hour mark for Manchester United and scored to give them the lead. In his short cameo, he took two shots, scored and created a big chance. He has looked very bright in phases for United and this season, Garnacho could really make an impact numbers wise. United however need to avoid over-playing him like last season.

Amad Diallo has looked great in pre season and was deservedly handed the start on the right flank. While he didn’t exactly set the world alight, he combined well with his teammates and looked dangerous. With Antony and Sancho both flattering to deceive in that position, could the Ivorian finally get a fair chance? Just a reminder, United bought him in January 2021 for a fee of €40 million including bonuses and he has made just 12 league appearances since.

#3 Rashford and Sancho continue to disappoint

Both Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho once again were below par in this game. Rashford started the game and missed a couple of big chances while Sancho came off the bench to miss in the shootout. If they don’t buckle up, they could soon fall out of favour.
