#1 The youngsters are good enough

Manchester City’s academy is without a doubt the best in England right now. Oscar Bobb looks like he was handcrafted to play for Pep Guardiola and was once again exquisite. Rico Lewis doesn’t play all that much, but when called upon he’s always excellent and that was once again the case here. James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly were somewhat silent but they too have had great pre seasons.

#2 Savio could be a lot of fun

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have often been criticised as being boring and lacking flair. In new signing Savio, they can perfectly remedy that. Coming off the bench, the Brazilian gave a small glimpse of the magical dribbling that he showed at Girona last season. Him and Jeremy Doku on either winger could be nightmarish for opposition fullbacks.

#3 The need for a backup striker

Erling Haaland was well marshalled by Manchester United and he had a silent game. The truth is that while he is the best striker in the world, he does have a number of silent games, especially on big occasions. It is not surprising that Julian Alvarez played the 5th most minutes in City’s squad last season – be it in place of Haaland or along with him. With the Argentine leaving, City need another versatile attacker who can play up top.
