Chelsea risk transfer ban again as potential target list reaches £196.5m

English capital club Chelsea is likely to now fasten the transfer activity as they return from their pre-season tour from America.

So far, Enzo Maresca’s men have only managed one win out of five matches while adapting to a new style of play. This indicates that there is a lot of work ahead in the coming weeks.

With the first Premier League game less than a week away, Chelsea has around three weeks left to finalise all their transfers. Despite spending a significant amount on new players, it remains uncertain how much improvement has been made, as many new additions have yet to make a substantial impact.

Even though Maresca is hoping for positive changes, it seems unlikely that these will come from the summer transfer market at this stage.

Chelsea risk transfer ban

On the other hand, Chelsea has reached an agreement to sign 19-year-old goalkeeper Mike Penders from Genk. The transfer, which could cost up to £15 million including add-ons, will see Penders return to Genk on loan before joining Chelsea next summer.

Chelsea also recently announced the signing of Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors as part of their youth recruitment efforts. The 19-year-old Argentine has been loaned back to his boyhood club and will have the opportunity to make an impact in 2025. Anselmino’s transfer is valued at around £14 million, and he has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Gabriel Mec is another player in a similar situation as Penders, yet to officially join Chelsea, though a deal has been agreed upon with Gremio for the 16-year-old. If all clauses are met, Mec’s transfer could cost around £21 million.

If Chelsea completes the signings of Mec, Penders, and Anselmino, their total summer spending would reach £196.5 million, making the risk of a transfer ban imminent.
