Lionel Messi’s mansion vandalized in Ibiza
Lionel Messi has seen his mansion in Ibiza vandalized by the Futuro Vegetal group. The climate activists have posted on social media and stated that it was an illegal construction.
They have poured red and black paint all over the mansion and posted photos of it on social media. They want the police in Ibiza abolished following tension in recent weeks.
They released a statement on Twitter and it read:
“We tinted Messi’s illegal mansion in Ibiza. The mansion is an illegal construction that the footballer acquired for the exorbitant sum of 11 million euros. While this is happening, in the Balearic Islands alone, between 2 and 4 people have died as a direct consequence of the heat wave. The richest 1% of the population is responsible for the same amount of carbon emissions as the poorest two-thirds.
“This is only possible because public authorities support an economic-social system that threatens life. While the far right blames migrants for the crisis and displays extreme violence against them, those of us who fight for a better world are clear that the problem is social inequality. Let’s tackle the problems at the root. We need a radical change of system to face the Climate Crisis.”
The mansion is reportedly illegal but was not constructed by the Inter Miami star. The Argentine bought it for $11 million in 2022 and has been using it often when he is in the country.
The Inter Miami star has not reacted to the news yet, and his team has also not made a public statement about the incident. His side are set to take on Toronto FC in the Leagues Cup on Thursday, but Messi is not in the squad.
The Copa America winner is still out injured after picking up an ankle injury in the final.
