Eric Ten Hag reignites Man Utd interest in Frenkie de Jong with a swap transfer
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is again linked with a transfer to Manchester United as the Catalan club looks to sell the Dutch international to generate funds. Ever since Eric Ten Hag joined Manchester United as the head coach in 2022, every season the Red Devils have been linked with the midfielder.
Who is Manchester United planning to offer in exchange for Frenkie de Jong?
According to El Nacional, Ten Hag has been the driving force behind United’s interest in De Jong. He believes that the 27-year-old would become a “key piece” of the project. There have been reports that the English club has already made an offer, which includes Brazilian winger Antony as a part of the agreement. Barcelona is keen to add a winger to their squad, as they approached Athletic Club for the services of Nico Williams.
United are looking to add players to their midfield, considering the uncertainty over Scott McTominay, Casemiro, and Christian Eriksen. The Catalans, though, are not interested in Antony, who finished the last season with three goals and two assists for the English club.
However, Barcelona are said to be eager to sell the Dutch international due to his high wages, which hold up their pursuits to bring new players to the club.
Manchester United, in the past, were in a situation to break a deal with Barcelona, but the player was not keen to leave Spain. With two years still left on his contract, it would be a huge task for the Red Devils to lure him to Manchester.
