English Premier League Latest Standings & Table after GW 16

Merseyside giants Liverpool FC went top of the English Premier League table as they defeated Crystal Palace 2 – 1 away from home in game week 16 of the EPL. Arsenal slipped off the top of the table as they were held back in a 1 – 0 defeat away to Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Crystal Palace 1 – 2 Liverpool

Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott scored a stoppage-time winner in 90+1′ minutes to secure a victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men after their Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah drew them level with a 76th minute goal. Liverpool was trailing Crystal Palace from a Jean-Philippe Mateta penalty in 57′ minutes. The hard-fought victory was enough to put Liverpool top of the English Premier League table with Arsenal dropping points elsewhere in the league.

Brighton & Hove Albion 1 – 1 Burnley

Burnley FC led for much of the fixture against the run of play when Wilson Odobert scored a 45-minute goal late in the first half. Simon Adingra eventually equalized for Brighton & Hove Albion in 77′ minutes. Brighton & Hove Albion had 68% of the ball possession in the match and they completed 11 shots on target and 10 shots off target throughout the match. Manchester United 0 – 3 Bournemouth

The Red Devils succumbed to a 3 – 0 defeat at home to Bournemouth and this was a match to forget for the Manchester United faithful. Despite recording 70% of ball possession throughout the match, Manchester United was unable to create big chances for themselves with just 3 shots off target and 4 on target throughout the game.

Dominic Solanke gave Bournemouth an early lead when he scored in 5′ minutes. Philip Billing then doubled their lead on 68′ minutes and Marcos Senesi scored a 73rd-minute third to make it an emphatic victory for the Cherries.

Sheffield United 1 – 0 Brentford

The Blades (Sheffield United) recorded a much-needed victory over rivals Brentford FC after they scored the only goal of the game through James John Mcatee in first-half injury time.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 – 1 Nottingham Forest

13th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers drew 1 – 1 with 16th-placed Nottingham Forest at their home ground Molineux Stadium on Saturday, 9 December, 2023. Harry Toffolo gave Nottingham Forest an early lead on 14′ minutes but Matheus Cunha eventually equalized for Wolverhampton Wanderers on 32′ minutes.

Aston Villa 1 – 0 Arsenal

3rd placed Aston Villa defeated 2nd placed Arsenal FC in Saturday’s late kick-off in the English Premier League. The Villains closed the gap with the Gunners to just 1 point after a well-earned victory at Villa Park. John McGinn scored the only goal of the game in 7′ minutes for Aston Villa.

Everton 2 – 0 Chelsea

Merseyside club Everton FC who saw fellow rivals Liverpool FC go top of the Premier League this weekend managed to pull off an upset and defeat Londoners Chelsea FC 2 – 0 at Goodison Park this Sunday. Abdoulaye Doucoure gave the Merseyside team a 54′ minute lead and Lewis Norman Dobbin doubled the tally for Everton FC as he scored in 90+2 minutes.

Fulham 5 – 0 West Ham

Fulham FC smashed fellow Londoners West Ham United 5 – 0 at Craven Cottage this past weekend in game week 16 of the Premier League. Raul Jimenez (22′), Willian (31′), Tosin Adarabioyo (41′), Harry Wilson (60′) and Carlos Vinicius (89′) all scored to complete the rout for Fulham.

Luton Town 1 – 2 Manchester City

Premier League minnows Luton Town almost caused an upset as they led mighty Manchester City through an Elijah Adebayo goal in 45+2′ minutes. Luton’s dreams were broken after the break as Manchester City staged a comeback through goals from Bernardo Silva in 62′ minutes and Jack Grealish in 65′ minutes.

Tottenham Hotspur 4 – 1 Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur scored an emphatic 4 – 1 victory over Newcastle United this weekend. A result that saw them further solidify their position in 5th place in the Premier League Table. Iyenoma Destiny Udogie (26′), Richarlison (38′), Richarlison (60′), and Heung Min Son (Pen 85′) all scored for Tottenham Hotspur while Joelinton got a consolation goal for Newcastle on 90+1 minutes.
