Marcus Rashford Banned from Driving After Speeding Incident

The 26-year-old Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding at over 100mph on the M60.

The incident occurred at 12:31 a.m. on December 12 last year when Rashford was driving his Rolls-Royce Cullinan Blue Shadow which overtook an unmarked police car. Rashford told the court he thought he was being followed.

A detective constable in an unmarked BMW X5 attempted to catch up with Rashford reaching speeds of no less than 104mph over a 1,600-meter stretch.

Despite the high speed the gap between the two cars continued to increase. Rashford exited the motorway at junction 3 and the officer continued to follow him. The police eventually stopped him at the Eden Park Road roundabout on the A34.

Court Ruling and Rashford’s Defense

Rashford appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court via video link where District Judge Lucy Hogarth handed down the driving ban and a £1,666 fine.

Moreover, Rashford was ordered to pay a £666 victim surcharge and £120 in court costs. He had previously pleaded guilty to a single speeding offense.

Rashford claimed he was being followed by a white vehicle which prompted him to speed while speaking in his defense.

The police officer on the scene reported seeing no such vehicle in the footage. Rashford explained that being followed happens frequently and calling the police every time would be impractical.

This speeding incident came just three months after Rashford was involved in a collision with another Rolls-Royce following a Manchester United match.

No medical attention was required and no arrests were made in that incident. Rashford is known for his impressive car collection and owns several luxury vehicles including multiple Rolls-Royces, a McLaren, and a Lamborghini.
