Aston Villa closes in on signing Everton midfielder for a rampant £50 million: Report

According to ‘Sky Sports’ and ‘The Guardian’, Aston Villa are closing in on a deal with Everton for the midfielder Amadou Onana. The transfer fee involved in any potential agreement between both clubs is listed to be around £50 million.

Aston Villa emerged as the dark horse in the 2023-2024 Premier League campaign. The Midlands-based club secured a Champions League spot under Unai Emery by finishing fourth in the standings. With Douglas Luiz departing the club after securing a transfer to Juventus, a player like Amadou Onana might turn out to be a perfect replacement for him as Villa looks to fill that void.

However, apart from Aston Villa, rival league clubs such as Man United, Newcastle United, and Arsenal also reportedly hold an interest in Onana. Also, other top European clubs like FC Barcelona and Bayer Munich have been linked with the player. Onana made 30 appearances for the Toffees in the last Premier League season.

What Onana brings is sheer tenacity in the midfield area. His hunger to win the ball back and do something influential with it makes him a significant figure for any side he plays for. The 22-year-old also made four appearances for Belgium in the Euro 2024. The midfielder’s current contract with Everton darts till June 2027. Whether Villa manages to get a deal over the line for him or not, remains to be seen.
