Denmark vs England Highlights: Three Lions waste chance to secure Euro 2024 knockout berth

Welcome to Denmark vs England highlights at the Euro 2024!

England failed to secure their position to the round of 16 as well as Group C winners as they were fortunate to come out with a 1-1 draw against a spirited Denmark side in Frankfurt.

Gareth Southgate’s team would have topped their group after Serbia and Slovenia drew earlier in the day, but would breathe a sigh of relief after what was a thoroughly atrocious performance by them on the evening.

Harry Kane scored in his fourth successive major tournament for England before Morten Hjulmand’s 25-yard equaliser for the Danish contingent.

Although Phil Foden struck the post, majority of this English team needs to level up their performances going forward in order to go deep into the competition.

Denmark vs England Highlights

3′Harry Kane already touched the ball more times than he did in the entirety of the first half against Serbia

6′ – Sloppy possession play from Kyle Walker hands Denmark a chance, which they wasted

13′Phil Foden came up with his best moment of the tournament as his attempt is just over the bar

18′ – GOAL – Harry Kane got his tournament up and running with a finish from close range with an assist from Kyle Walker

27′ – Yellow Card – Jannik Vestergaard

34′ – GOAL – Hjulmand’s 30 yard thunderbolt shocks England as Denmark equalise. His goal was the 13th from outside the box at Euro 2024 – already more than was scored in the entire group stage at Euro 2020 (12).

45+2′ HALF TIME

56′ – OFF THE POST – Foden’s low shot from distance comes back off Denmark’s right-hand post

66′ – Guehi steps into midfield and almost all of England’s midfielders move forward. Denmark almost pull off a perfect counter, but it ends in a goal kick for England

67′ – Declan Rice horribly overhits a pass out of play for a Denmark corner and blames the pitch conditions.

70′ – Bowen, Eze and Watkins are subbed in for England as Kane, Saka and Foden bow out of the game

75′ – Watkins causes nuisance in Denmark’s final third as he wins a corner from nothing

84′ – Guehi criminally gives the ball away before saving his face with a timely challenge

86′ – Hojberg almost scores the winner for Denmark as his shot goes just wide

90+3′ – FULL TIME

Player of the Match: Pierre Emile Hojberg (Denmark)

The midfield general was everywhere! He won five out of his six tackles, made four crucial clearances and most importantly, did not let Jude Bellingham affect the game in any way.

Key Moment

Andres Christensen found himself in acres of space on the edge of the six-yard box after England’s players completely switched off. The centre-back scuffs the effort over in a big let-off for England.

Key Stats

Harry Kane is only the third player to score in four separate major tournaments for England (2018 World Cup, Euro 2020, 2022 World Cup, Euro 2024), after Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney.

Conclusion

England should be ashamed of their performance against Denmark as they had a brilliant chance to secure qualification without the need to get a result on the last matchday of the group against Slovenia on June 25. They must be very of Slovenia considering the performance they put up against Serbia. Gareth Southgate will need to marshal his troops in order to get the best out of them as Slovenia are a much more physical side compared to Denmark.

Denmark will feel they have one foot in the knockouts after this result!
