“I will play for my dream club”: Kylian Mbappe comments after signing for Real Madrid

Despite signing a contract extension for one year last summer, many expected Kylian Mbappe to leave Paris Saint-Germain amidst serious interest from Real Madrid. However, the move never materialized and Mbappe ended up staying for a season, where he finished with a domestic treble. Not only that, the Frenchman also ended up contributing to 53 goals across all competitions, a tally that included 34 in the Ligue 1.

But with his contract expiring, Mbappe confirmed that he wouldn’t be signing an extension and that he would be leaving PSG for free at the end of the 2023/24 season. It saw speculation arise as to where the 25-year-old was set to go next with Real Madrid eventually reported to be his top suitor. The move was eventually confirmed after the Champions League final with the Frenchman signing a five-year deal.

Mbappe confirms that he will stay at Real Madrid for at least five years

That includes a €150m signing-on bonus that will be paid out in instalments over the course of his five-year contract as well as a €15m salary per year. It does mean a pay-cut as compared to his salary at PSG but the Frenchman was reportedly more than happy to take the cut if it meant signing for Real Madrid. That was later confirmed by Mbappe as he admitted that he was very very happy.

The forward will wear the number 9 for the club and also added that he is at his dream club and has no plans on leaving before his contract at the club is up. Not only that, Mbappe also hinted at potentially staying beyond his five-year deal but didn’t expand on the comment.

“I’m happy. I’m very happy, you can see that smile on my face… and an happy player can perform way better. I will play for my dream club. I will be at Real Madrid for at minimum five years,” Mape said, reported Fabrizio Romano.
