Thomas Frank to Manchester United next season? All you need to know
With Erik Ten Hag counting his days in Manchester United, another rumour about his replacement has emerged to the surface. The latest reports suggested that INEOS are working on the possibilities to sign Brentford manager Thomas Frank.
Ten Hag could stay longer with United in a condition of securing the next season’s European competition. Securing the European slot through the league standings appears to be unlikely with United’s position.
Erik Ten Hag faces a treacherous road ahead
As things stand, the Red Devils sit eighth with nine points trailing from the fifth place which is eligible for the Europa League next season. The Champions League zone is even way further for them as the Old Trafford-based side have 14 points gap.
United will face Manchester City in the FA Cup final, which should they win could pave their way to Europe. This gives Ten Hag a tough situation to deal with in a mission of staying longer with United. Legally, the Dutchman is still on-contract until the summer of next year.
Frank however, has emerged to the surface for several reasons. First, he is known to have a good relationship with the current INEOS’ director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford, which put him in a favoured position. Also, his approach in coaching is matched with what the boards are looking for, emphasising on data and metrics.
Responding to the rumours, Frank said that being linked to United was a compliment of his good work with Brentford. Furthermore, The Danish added that he has no power to control what is circling around in the media, urging the public to pick the news wisely.
“Immediately, I think it’s flattering and a recognition of what I do,” Frank said via Mirror. “And I’m glad that others recognise the work we do at Brentford. That said, it’s not a one-man show about what’s going on at Brentford.
“I’m not going to comment on the rumours that have been about me. You shouldn’t believe everything you read in the papers.”
Frank will have his contract with Brentford expire in the summer of 2027. This season, he managed to keep The Bees stay in the Premier League, sitting 16th with one game to go.
