Why did VAR disallow Real Madrid’s goal in Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich?
Real Madrid equalized in the 73rd minute when Matthijs De Ligt unintentionally deflected the ball into his side’s own net. However, the referee ruled it out due to a foul committed during the goal process after reviewing it using VAR.
Fede Valverde sent a groundborne pass into a bunch of players in the box which led to De Ligt’s deflecting the ball into Manuel Neuer’s net. At the same time, Nacho touched Joshua Kimmich on the neck and pushed the German which made the latter on the ground.
VAR Check: The referee called it a foul
After checking the monitor, the referee Szymon Marciniak called it an obvious foul and disallowed Madrid’s goal. Bayern were still on the lead from the goal they scored five minutes earlier.
Los Blancos are in a good mood when welcoming Bayern at Santiago Bernabeu. Carlo Ancelotti’s side just won the LaLiga earlier this week with four games to go after their 87-point collection is impossible to be taken over by any other teams in the league.
Ancelotti is also on a mission to win his third Champions League title with Madrid after winning it in 2014 and 2022. Overall, the Italian manager has won ‘The Big Ear’ four times with the other two coming when he was managing AC Milan from 2001 to 2009.
