Manchester United 0–1 Wolves Player Ratings: Wolves Complete a Historic Double Over Man United Thanks to Sarabia’s Freekick

Pablo Sarabia’s splendid free kick was all it took to separate the two sides as Wolves completed a historic double over Manchester United, winning 1-0. This result has brought both of these teams closer, standing 14th and 15th, respectively.

Ruben Amorim handed a debut to another academy player Tyler Fredricson today and surprisingly rested Bruno Fernandes. Rasmus Hojlund replaced the injured Joshua Zirkzee at the top, with Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo behind him. The visitors on the other hand welcomed back their talisman Matheus Cunha back into the side, hoping his talent will help them continue their good form.

It was a cagey start as both teams did not make a confident play in the starting minutes, but as the game progressed, the Wolves looked confident. However, Manchester United got some chances with Eriksen almost scoring from the free-kick, which was saved by Bentley. Kobbie Mainoo got another half chance, which he could not convert. In the end, it was a very tepid half where neither team did not scored goals nor created any exciting chances for either side, making it a dull watch for both the viewers in the stadium and fans in front of their screens at home.

The second half started on a similar note to the first, with both teams still being cagey and struggling to create chances. After a flurry of substitutions from Amorim, the impact came instantly when Garnacho laid a beautiful low cross to Hojlund to tap it in, but the Danish forward struggled to get behind the ball to get a shot. The new substitutes combined again with the help of Garnacho, as he laid another ball beautifully to Bruno Fernandes, who failed to connect the ball properly.

The opening goal of the game finally arrived as Christian Eriksen conceded a dangerous foul near the edge of the box, which was converted spectacularly by Pablo Sarabia. There was a sense of urgency after the goal, with both teams looking more active. While Manchester United created some chances where they could have scored an equaliser, Wolves defended comfortably and ended the game as victors.

For their next match, Manchester United will travel to play against Bournemouth away from home whilst Wolves will be playing against Leicester City at the Molineux.

GK- Andre Onana – 5.5/10

He looked a little comfortable than usual, but he was largely untested by Wolves attackers throughout the game. He could have done a little better to save the free-kick

RWB- Patrick Dorgu – 6/10

While his defensive performance looked very solid, his forward runs were not fruitful most of the time. However, his over-eagerness got him into the books of the referee.

CB- Tyler Fredricson – 6.5/10

The young centreback looked very comfortable in the back three despite playing for the first time in the league and challenged the Wolves attackers to raise their level.

CB- Victor Lindelof – 6.5/10

The centreback looked confident today evening, especially while tracking runners and defending aerial threats.

CB- Noussair Mazraoui – 6/10

While he conceded some fouls in dangerous areas, he was contributing to moving the ball forward, and one of his runs near the Wolves’ box was a treat to watch.

LWB- Harry Amass – 5.5/10

The young fullback looked uncomfortable in his new role as a wingback, struggling to make consistent runs forward.

CM- Manuel Ugarte – 6/10

He was the anchor of the midfield and retained possession with some short, crisp passing. Apart from some needless fouls, his defensive game looked solid too, often winning the ball back.

CM- Christian Eriksen – 6.5/10

There were sprinkles of his creative presence in the game, especially with some clever touches to link up well. However, they did not end up as significant goal contributions. Sadly, he conceded a dangerous free kick, which ended up as a goal for the opposition.

RW- Alejandro Garnacho – 7.5/10

He looked lively, making some fantastic runs behind the Wolves backline, earning free-kicks in dangerous positions and tried to utilise half chances too.

ST- Rasmus Hojlund – 5/10

While he had some good movements during buildup play using his hold up abilities, he lacked the killer instinct in front of the goal, which was evident when he got a golden chance in the second half which he squandered.

LW- Kobbie Mainoo – 6.5/10

The youngster put in a matured performance, dropping deep to collect the ball and playing some excellent line-breaking passes and attempting to hit by cutting inside and shooting from the edge of the box.

SUB- Mason Mount – 6/10

The attacking midfielder, who has been struggling in his Manchester United tenure, entered the pitch with plenty of time to find the winner.

SUB- Diogo Dalot – 6/10

The fullback relieved the duties of Patrick Dorgu, who entered the pitch to protect the right flank and support the attackers.

SUB- Bruno Fernandes – 6/10

The talisman of the side came on to the pitch to replace Ugarte as an attacking change to help his team win the game.

SUB- Chido Obi-Martin – 6/10

The young striker replaced the struggling Hojlund to buy his team a goal and help the get that elusive victory.

SUB- Leny Yoro – NA

The centreback entered moments after his side conceded the goal to lock up the defense.

Manager- Ruben Amorim – 5/10

He put out a relatively inexperienced side on the pitch, resting key players. It was evident on the pitch as the team lacked chemistry. It feels like the Premier League is not their priority right now.

GK- Dan Bentley – 6.5/10

He stepped in during the final minutes as Sa pulled out. However, he kept his cool and made some good saves to keep his team in the tie.

LWB- Rayan Ait Nouri – 6.5/10

The wing-back marauded forward and glided past the opposition on multiple occasions. He kept the width, winning many throw-ins. But a moment of carelessness got him into the books of the referee.

CB- Toti Gomes – 5.5/10

He was not very careful in defense today on some occasions and almost conceded a penalty.

CB- Hugo Bueno – 5.5/10

The centreback, despite starting well, was shaky on many occasions, especially while tracking Garnacho, Eriksen, and defending aerial threats

CB- Emmanuel Agbadou – 6/10

A solid, dependable performance for the centreback, keeping the threat out as much as possible and engaging in challenges against the attackers of Manchester United successfully.

RWB- Nelson Semedo – 6/10

 He was good on the defensive side, locking up his flank but his attacking game looked off as he took some wayward shots, which did not come to fruition.

CM- Andre – 6.5/10

He was tenacious in midfield and linked up well with Ait Nouri and Cunha on the left flank during the buildup play.

CM- Joao Gomes – 6/10

He did not offer anything significant during the game and was constantly getting overrun by Ugarte and Eriksen in the midfield.

LW- Matheus Cunha – 7/10

He won some free-kicks in crucial positions, looked clever in tight spaces but he did not get on the end of any threatening chances nor create some for his team.

ST- Jørgen Strand Larsen – 6/10

A constant aerial threat in the game troubled the keeper, but he could not get on the score sheet.

RW- Marshall Munetsi – 6/10

The attacker contributed defensively, helping out the wingback on his flank on some occasions, but going forward, he was toothless.

SUB- Rodrigo Gomes – 6/10

The defender came on with around fifteen minutes to add some fresh legs to the playing eleven.

SUB- Pablo Sarabia – 7/10

The Portuguese attacker entered the pitch to try to make things happen for his side, which he did by scoring a fantastic free-kick.
