“Wish him a speedy recovery” – Pep Guardiola hilariously responds to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s recent dig at Man City
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, in his press conference, has responded to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s statement regarding The Citizen’s financial maneuver. The Catalan is not drawn into a before his club’s agenda this weekend at Anfield. Instead, he wishes the best for Trent who is dealing with injury.
“I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he comes back to the pitch as soon as possible,” Pep Guardiola said in his press conference.
Trent has spoken bitterly about City’s “big spender” status a few days ago. He said that it would be more meaningful if Liverpool won the league, due to the financial back-up the Citizens have.

What did Trent Alexander-Arnold say about Man City?
“It’s difficult. You’re up against a machine that’s built to win – that’s the simplest way to describe City and their organization,” Trent told FourFourTwo. “Looking back on this era, although they’ve won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially.
“How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it, probably means more to our fans.”
City has indeed spent more money than Liverpool in strengthening their forces. Since Jurgen Klopp came in 2015, City have spent £1.28 billion compared to The Reds with only £803 million. On the other hand, the Qatari-backed club has earned less £254 million than Liverpool who generated £692 million.
Despite making more profit than City, Liverpool are struggling to win titles due to -what according to Trent, is “a machine that’s built to win”. Liverpool’s most expensive signing was Darwin Nunez with £85 million, 20 million less than City’s record for Jack Grealish (100 million).
Erling Haaland responds to Trent differently
Despite Guardiola’s composed manner in responding to Trent’s statement, that was not the case with Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias.
“If he wants to say that, okay,” Haaland said via SkySports. “I have been here one year, and I’ve won the treble, and it was quite a nice feeling.
“I don’t think he knows exactly this feeling. Liverpool can talk as much as they want, or Trent Alexander-Arnold can talk as much as he wants. I don’t know why he does that, but I don’t mind.”
