Mikel Arteta provides Gabriel Martinelli injury update after Arsenal’s 6-0 demolition of Sheffield United

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta delivered an update on Gabriel Martinelli’s injury following the team’s convincing 6-0 win at Sheffield United.

Martinelli had a good game but was forced off after 64 minutes and replaced by compatriot Gabriel Jesus.

How did Gabriel Martinelli get injured?

Gabriel Martinelli had a good game for Arsenal and ended with one goal and one assist to his name. However, he was forced off shortly after the hour-mark.

Speaking to the media after the match, Arteta revealed what happened to the Brazilian.

“We had a little issue with Gabi Martinelli. He had a little cut in his foot. We need to see how it is.”

Martinelli suffered the injury in the second half after a come-together with a Sheffield United player in a duel. While the extent of the injury seems manageable, Arteta did not mention when exactly Martinelli would return.

Martinelli for Arsenal this season

Arsenal’s wide forward made a rather slow start to the season in terms of pure numbers. In 32 appearances across competitions, he has scored eight goals and provided five assists so far. Six goals and four assists have come in 25 Premier League games.

However, Martinelli came clutch against Manchester City and scored a dramatic late winner against the champions. That 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium in October 2023 gave Arsenal a big boost for the season.

The 22-year-old had a great season last time around for the Gunners. He made 46 appearances in the 2022-23 season, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists. With 11 league games and at least one more Champions League game left to go, he will be looking to return to action soon.

Arteta’s men will host Brentford at the Emirates in the Premier League in their next game on March 9.
