Nottm Forest vs Liverpool: Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis chased referee Paul Tierney in protest after full-time

Nottm Forest vs Liverpool came to a dramatic end in the Premier League on Saturday, March 2 as Darwin Nunez grabbed a last-gasp winner for the Reds.

Referee Paul Tierney came under major scrutiny for some calls throughout the contest, angering the hosts’ players and fans. However, that anger extended to the owner Evangelos Marinakis, who reportedly chased Tierney down the tunnel after full-time to protest his decisions.

Nottm Forest vs Liverpool as it happened

Liverpool made a strong start to the game and dominated possession in the first half. However, they faltered in the final third and did not manage a single shot on target in eight attempts. The second half was a similar story for the Reds, who managed just one shot on target until late in the game.

Ibrahima Konate went down with a head injury late in the game with many questioning the severity of his injury. Additionally, Tierney made a strange call during a drop-ball situation, raising a few eyebrows among the home support.

Then, Forest’s worst fears came true as Nunez scored at the death to secure all three points for Jurgen Klopp’s men. Club owner Marinakis reportedly chased Tierney down the tunnel with hopes of confronting him. He reportedly shouted,

“Respect the players! This happens every week.”

Marinakis then had to be escorted away by security personnel present at the stadium. However, this is just one of several occasions Premier League referees have come under fire this season.

Aftermath of the game

The result takes Liverpool four points clear of Manchester City at the top, with Pep Guardiola’s men set to host Manchester United on Sunday. The two giants will face-off next week at Anfield in what will be the last meeting between Klopp and Guardiola in the Premier League as of now.

Meanwhile, Nottm Forest are just four points above the drop zone following the result. Luton Town in 17th have a game in hand over Forest, who will travel to face Brighton & Hove Albion in their next game in the Premier League.
