Everton 4-0 Leicester City Player Ratings: The Toffees roll over the Foxes with stunning attacking display

In what was a game with huge implications for the relegation battle near the bottom of the league, Everton welcomed Leicester City to Goodison Park. By and large, the game was a big one and a must-win for either side to secure their spot in the league for next season. Let’s see how they got on.

For the most part, the game started off giving us the earliest goal of the season, with Abdoulaye Doucoure latching on to Jordan Pickford’s long ball straight from kickoff to give Everton the lead within the opening ten seconds. That said, Everton continued their flurry, finding another goal in the next 5 minutes with Beto, who added to his tally near the end of the first half as well.

The second saw Leicester City try and attempt to mount a comeback but they were completely outmatched by the Everton side put out by Moyes today. As such, the hosts had a few more close attempts at goal, before Iliman Ndiaye added a fourth at the stroke of 90, to secure a massive win for the Toffees. Here are Everton vs Leicester City player ratings.

Goalkeeper

Jordan Pickford: 7.5/10- Impeccable with his goalkeeping as per, and avoided any silly mistakes or unnecessary troubles as well. Lobbed in a superb ball in the opening seconds of the game for Everton’s opener as well.

Defenders

Vitaliy Mykolenko: 6.5/10- Started the game much more reserved and in his half. Began venturing much further forward as the game went on. Delivered some superb crosses after getting to the byline and could easily have bagged an assist.

James Tarkowski: 7/10- Solid with his defending as per, and vital in keeping out set pieces and crosses. Played a perfectly curved and weighted ball to find Beto for Everton’s second goal within the opening 5 minutes.

Jarrad Branthwaite: 6.5/10- Up to the task defensively and made it a duty to intervene aerially whenever possible and showed great bravery in instances. Caught a blow to the head but went back to heading balls away shortly thereafter.

Jake O’Brien: 6.5/10- Stuck close to his center halves and was key in keeping out any aerial threat. Strong and physical in his approach today and more than decent enough with the ball at his feet as well.

Midfielders

Idrissa Gueye: 6.5/10- Started the game a little bit slow, losing possession cheaply on a couple of instances, despite Everton’s bright start. Key in winning back possession for his side at times and the turnovers also led to some very dangerous offensive transitions as well.

James Garner: 7/10- Well involved in and around the opposition box. Had quite a few sumptuous deliveries from open play and set pieces. Grew into the game well after a weary start and was back to his normal creative self. Played a superb line-breaking pass for Everton’s third.

Abdoulaye Doucoure: 7.5/10- Made a blitzing run into the opposition box, controlling the ball well, and dispatched it expertly to give his side the lead within 10 seconds. Was physically dominant and ever present in the middle of the park for his side.

Attackers

Iliman Ndiaye: 7.5/10- Seemed willing and active in trying to take players on and beat them. Showed bits of great link-up play and work on the ball. Needed to get closer to the goal and get a few more shots off, which he finally did at the end to find his goal.

Jesper Lindstrom: 6/10- Not as involved as the rest of the Everton attackers. Mostly kept laying the ball off for teammates and long balls over the Leicester defense. Did lose the ball a fair few times during duels though.

Beto: 7.5/10– Made a stunning run to take the opposition defender out of the game and buried the ball in the bottom corner with a clinical strike. Was a menace throughout, playing a role in the first goal, before dropping deeper to help link the play, and had a few neat link-ups as well. Finished his second goal equally as well.

Goalkeeper

Mads Hermansen: 6/10- Made a few saves to keep the scoreline respectable for his team. Could have done better for the opening goals with the shots being low-driven and towards the far post. Still, fared much better than many of his teammates.

Defenders

James Justin: 6/10- Struggled massively at times, slowly growing into the game. Began venturing further up the pitch in the second half, but was unable to put together anything too substantial or useful for the attack.

Wout Faes: 5.5/10- Completely oblivious to danger at times and constantly backing off from attackers. Showed very little awareness and defensive acumen and a very strange habit of not engaging or wanting to make tackles.

Jannik Vestergaard: 5.5/10- Caught ball-watching for the first two goals and was lethargic and static so many times during intense moments. Easily dealt with for the third goal as well and was hooked to avoid further embarrassment.

Victor Kristiansen: 6/10- Did try a little more than some of his teammates. Mostly able to keep things clean on his side and seemed to be playing on the front foot whenever possible. Showed some awful positioning at times but was not punished for it.

Midfielders

Boubakary Soumare: 6/10- Lethargic at the start of the game and easily outdone physically for the first goal. Was not spectacular for the rest of the game either, lunging into tackles and making rash challenges.

Harry Winks: 6/10- Offered very little cover for the backline and was outdone during duels more than a few times. Needed to show a little more strength and steel to contest some of the duels. Mostly stuck to making safe passes near and around the defense.

Bilal El Khannouss: 7/10- Seemingly the only bright spark in Leicester’s midfield. Had quite a few retrievals and drove forward well with the ball at his feet. Showed good awareness and positioning to get on the ball as often as possible and try to make things happen.

Attackers

Jordan Ayew: 6/10- Sluggish and a little too slow to have any real impact off the wings. Tried to put himself about and show a bit of physicality at times but wasn’t specially rewarded for it. Had a few good through passes but nothing particularly spectacular.

Bobby Decordova-Reid: 6/10- Seemed keen to try and make an impact but was let down by a bit of poor control on the ball. Could not combine with his teammates or put together a big chance either. Didn’t have any shots at goal nor did he look like he was ever going to.

Jamie Vardy: 5.5/10- Practically anonymous all game, with no shots or any real presence whatsoever. Was easily drowned out by the towering Everton defenders who dealt with him quite easily. Completed four passes all game, with each one of them coming from the center circle.

Ruud van Nistelrooy: 6/10- Showed very little adaptation to adversity and is yet to understand his players and their deficiencies better. Played a high line despite his defenders not being the most aware or fastest and was punished for it.
