Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara suffered a knee injury against Man United; and could miss the rest of the season

Aston Villa suffered a massive injury blow in their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Manchester United on Sunday as Boubacar Kamara went off with a knock to his knee. According to a few reports, he could now miss the rest of the season as well as the Euro 2024.

Kamara went off in the 65th minute of their clash and was replaced by Moussa Diaby. He underwent a scan on Monday but his condition will be further assessed by a knee specialist to determine the seriousness of his injury.

Certain media reports speculate that he could now miss the rest of the season. That will be a huge blow to Unai Emery, who is already without midfielder Emiliano Buendia and centre-back Tyrone Mings. Both players are out with long-term knee injuries too. Ezri Konsa is also nursing a knee injury right now but isn’t that serious by comparison.

Kamara has made 30 appearances for Villa this season in all competitions. He scored a goal against Everton in the Carabao Cup while bagging an assist in their league win over Brentford. He’s already racked up more appearances this season than what he managed in his debut campaign last year. It’s a reflection of his growing influence on the side.

Nonetheless, another injury to a key player means it could hamper Villa’s chances of finishing inside the league’s top four places this season. With 46 points in 24 games, the Birmingham outfit are currently in fifth position, breathing right below Tottenham Hotspur’s neck by a point.

Villa play Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Luton Town in their next three games, before the big game to Spurs. If Emery’s side manage to collect all 12 points here, they’d be back in the Champions League places. A huge boost going into the home stretch of their campaign.
