The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is at stake as FIFA find difficulty to land sponsors
After decades, the existence of the FIFA Club World Cup faces a serious threat in its organizing issue. It is reported that the 2025 edition of FIFA CWC, has several concerns which could disband the tournament permanently in the future.
It was started when the broadcasting deal between FIFA and Apple fell through, making the governing body have to find alternatives. After opening a tender for a broadcasting licence for the 2025 and 2029 editions, not a single broadcaster put a bid on it.
FIFA faces mounting problems
FIFA President Gianni Infantino is known to have an emergency meeting to solve this issue. Several FIFA major markets such as Asia, America, and the Middle East were not showing any interest in securing the sponsor deal.
Another issue that could threaten the future of the tournament is sponsors. FIFA couldn’t land a single big sponsor to fund the tournament which makes some of the teams reluctant to join it. Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti refused to play in the tournament due to a match-fee concern.
“One of our games is worth twenty million euros, FIFA wants to give us that amount for the entire tournament”, Carlo Ancelotti told Il Giornale in early June via Goal. “FIFA can forget about it, players and clubs will not participate in that tournament”.
On the other hand, some players have also filed suit against FIFA regarding the alleged labour exploitation. Player unions from England, France, and Italy think that players would be pushed to the limit due to the busy schedule in the summer.
