Tamworth 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings: Spurs struggle to break past National League minnows

Yet another gift of English footballing culture, Tamworth hosted Tottenham Hotspur at their humble abode, The Lamb Ground in what certainly made for a very Sunday League feel the FA Cup 3rd Round tie. With that said, let’s take a look at how the game unfolded.

By and large, Tottenham was expected to be the more dominant side and were exactly that, taking control of the game for large parts and reserving Tamworth to only a few breakaway chances which managed to give the home fans something to cheer for. At the same time, Spurs themselves created very little and could not offer much threat up front despite having a lot of control in midfield.

The second half saw Spurs offer even less and nearly lose out in the dying moments of added time. That said, the visitors were able to save face and grab the lead 10 minutes into extra time and add a couple of goals in the second half of extra time which was enough to seal the tie.

Goalkeeper

Jasbir Singh: 7.5/10- Superb in keeping things clean at the back, saving some long-range efforts with surety and confidence. Was immense during set plays and made some great claims to ease the pressure on his defense.

Defenders

Callum Cockerill-Mollett: 6.5/10- Had a largely quiet game, owing to little action down his flank. Was outdone on one occasion but was mostly up to the task.

Haydn Hollis: 7.5/10- Showed some great defensive awareness and silky skills on the balls, pirouetting out of danger in one instance much to the home support’s delight.

Jordan Cullinane-Liburd: 6.5/10- Feisty and combative on the day, he was solid for the most part but was a little touch-and-go in terms of his passing and keeping possession of the ball.

Ben Crompton: 6.5/10- Coped well with Mikey Moore for the most part and managed to keep things solid on his end. Did try to look for a teammate with an over-the-top ball from time to time.

Midfielders

George Morrison: 6/10- Offered very little in the midfield battle, and was absent for large parts of the game. Was mostly reserved to clean up duty and pressuring as a second man for the most part.

Ben Milnes: 6/10- Tried to keep things tight in front of the defense and did well on a few occasions as well. Got outdone on a couple of occasions but wasn’t deterred from giving his all regardless.

Tom Tonks: 6.5/10- Lost the ball quite a few times and was caught in possession one too many times. Did make the most of it with a little more time but mostly got stuck in defensively and was a real menace for the Spurs players.

Attackers

Thomas McGlinchey: 6/10- Started the game well and had a solid attempt on goal, a big moment for his side. Massively fell away and struggled to get involved in the second half though.

Beck-Ray Enoru: 6.5/10- One of the brightest players for his side, pressing high and driving forward with the ball whenever offered the chance. Hassled his full-back on numerous occasions and played with fire and intent.

Dan Creaney: 6.5/10- Put himself about well and tried his best to make something happen, reserved to feeding off of scraps for the most part.

Substitutes

Munashe Sundire: N/A

Kai Williams: N/A

Alex Fletcher: N/A

Nathan Tshikuna: N/A

Chris Wreh: N/A

Manager

Andy Peaks: 7.5/10- Coached a brilliant game and deservedly could have walked away with a win in the 90 minutes. Should have made his changes sooner and accounted for fatigue from his players, seeing that they were against higher-level opposition.

Goalkeeper

Antonín Kinský: 7.5/10- Kept his side in the game and held on well during nervy moments. Spared his team a lot of blushes, making a vital save at the end of the added time.

Defenders

Sergio Reguilón: 7/10- Comfortable in possession and in charging up the flanks. Kept things clean but could well have contributed a little more offensively.

Archie Gray: 7/10- Calm and composed as usual, hardly putting a foot wrong. Put himself about during defensive transitions and was key in Spurs playing out from the back.

Radu Drăguşin: 7/10- Competed well physically and was a rock at the back for Spurs. Did get hassled a few times but managed to keep his composure regardless.

Pedro Porro: 6.5/10- Tested well defensively but kept things solid. Tried to offer more offensively but couldn’t really put up anything too useful.

Midfielders

Yves Bissouma: 7.5/10- One of the best players on the pitch quite easily. Physically stronger and faster than those around him and screened the backline very well.

Pape Matar Sarr: 7/10- Offered legs and power in midfield, providing an open option for his teammates in the middle of the park. Could not offer too much threat moving forward though.

James Maddison: 7.5/10- Superb at times with his movement and work on the ball. Did everything well aside from providing a worthwhile final ball. Had a few good attempts at goal too.

Attackers

Brennan Johnson: 7/10- Could not offer much down the flanks but was able to threaten the back post with a few good runs. Offered some creativity after moving in-field and put Werner through with a delightful ball in the second half.

Mikey Moore: 7/10- Offered pace and electricity down the left flank and was intent on driving forward whenever he got the chance. Looked like one of the brighter players on the day and should have had more minutes.

Timo Werner: 5.5/10- Lacked the clinicality or the intent in front of the goal and failed to put away some very good chances. Offered very little on the ball or in terms of creativity after being moved further out as well.

Substitutes

Lucas Bergvall: N/A

Dominic Solanke: N/A

Son Heung-Min: N/A

Dejan Kulusevski: N/A

Djed Spence: N/A

Manager

Ange Postecoglou: 6.5/10- Made a few puzzling decisions with his selections and substitutions during the game. Was lucky not to lose the game during normal time and showed very little adaptability during the game as well.
