Manchester United looking to offer a new contract to star midfielder

Manchester United have reportedly been impressed with midfielder Scott McTominay’s recent performances and are looking to offer him a new contract.

According to The Sun, McTominay was one of the players close to leaving the club last summer. However, his performances this season have impressed manager Erik ten Hag, who would like to keep the midfielder in the squad.

McTominay has made 24 appearances across competitions this season, scoring six goals and providing one assist. He has scored some key goals which helped his side beat the likes of Sheffield United and Brentford earlier this season.

The Scotland international’s contract with Manchester United expires in 2025 and the club are now willing to offer him a new deal. One source told The Sun:

“Scott has turned his career around at Manchester United. He’s been one of the few bright points of a dismal season so far and has showed a new side to his game, scoring goals from midfield.

“He, along with Harry Maguire, were very close to joining other clubs in the summer. But now both players are seen as part of the future. The owners are very keen to invest in British players which is why Scott is likely to be offered an additional year on his current deal.”

However, McTominay is still assessing his options. The midfielder has started 17 games across competitions for Manchester United this season owing to their multiple injury issues.

McTominay wants to be sure he will get regular playing time at Old Trafford moving forward. If he doesn’t get such assurances, he could look to leave in the summer.

If Manchester United are unable to tie him down to a new contract, they will also be open to selling the 27-year-old in the summer instead of letting him go for free in 2025.

McTominay came through the Red Devils’ academy and has made 233 appearances for them, scoring 25 goals and providing six assists. Bayern Munich and West Ham United were linked with signing him last summer and could return this summer as well.
