Tottenham 3-4 Chelsea: Palmer Shines as Blues Stage Epic Comeback

Tottenham Hotspur have done it again and let slip of a 2-goal lead to lose 4-3 to Chelsea. The North London side were gifted two goals early in the match by Marc Cucurella, but the Blues managed to roar back and collect all three points.

Cucurella slipped twice and Tottenham made the most of it both times to take a 2-0 lead in the 11th minute. Jadon Sancho pulled one back in the 17th minute but the home side held their lead until the break.

Chelsea started on the front foot after the break but Fraser Forster stepped up and made incredible saves to keep his side in the game. However, a foul on Caicedo saw Chelsea get a penalty at the hour mark and Cole Palmer made no mistake from the spot.

Palmer then turned assist provider as Enzo Fernandez smashed the ball into the net with his weak foot. The Englishman got fouled inside the box late in the game and converted from the spot again to make it 4-2.

Son, who missed a golden chance at 2-2, scored in the final seconds of the injury time to make it a nervy end but the match finished 4-3.

Son Heung-Min

Fraser Forster – 7.5: The goalkeeper made good saves today and there was nothing he could do about the two goals they conceded from open play.

Defenders

Pedro Porro – 7: A decent attacking performance but defensively, he was troubled by Sancho.

Cristian Romero – 4: Should not have played today and had to be taken off injured in the 15th minute as he had not recovered.

Micky van de Ven – 5.5: The defender was also taken off injured after he too rushed back from his injury. He had a decent match, and dealt well with Jackson.

Destiny Udogie – 6: He had trouble dealing with Pedro Neto and his second-half performance was terrible.

Midfielders

Dejan Kulusevski – 7.5: Lucky to have escaped a red card today but apart from that, he was easily Tottenham’s best player on the pitch.

Yves Bissouma – 4.5: He was unable to get himself into the game and gave away a silly penalty to help Chelsea get level in the game.

Pape Matar Sar – 5: The midfielder came close to scoring once but he will be remembered for the silly penalty he gave away to take the match out of his side’s reach.

Forwards

Brennan Johnson – 7: A threat every he got on the ball but sadly for Tottenham it was very rare. Managed just three passes but one of them was an assist.

Dominic Solanke – 6.5: He scored a brilliant goal early in the match against his former side and then did not get anything right.

Son Heung-Min – 6: He scored late in the match but his miss at 2-2 will be on the Tottenham fans’ minds for the rest of the week.

Robert Sanchez – 4.5: The goalkeeper made way too many mistakes and the goals he conceded were down to his poor positioning. It remains a surprise that he starts over Jorgensen.

Defender

Moises Caicedo – 6.5: The make-shift right-back was decent at the back but was on another level after he was moved to the midfield in the second half. Won the penalty at the hour mark but he was lucky to avoid a red card in the first half.

Benoit Badiashile – 6: Shaky start to the match but slowly got better. Was moved to LCB in the second half and that worked wonders.

Levi Colwill – 6: Made it too easy for Solanke for the first goal and he should have done a lot better for the second goal too. He was brilliant in the second half as well.

Marc Cucurella – 5.5: He slipped twice to give Tottenham a 2-0 lead early in the match but brought himself back in the game and even got an assist.

Midfielders

Romeo Lavia – 7: It was an unreal performance in the first half but he was taken off at half time with a hamstring issue.

Enzo Fernandez – 8: The Argentine is on a stunning run and it continued today with a smashing goal.

Cole Palmer – 7.5: Missed an easy chance in the first half but scored two brilliant penalties to seal a win for his side.

Pedro Neto – 8: No goal or assist today but he was brilliant every time he got on the ball today.

Jadon Sancho – 9: The loanee was on another level compared to the players on the pitch. He was confident on the ball and was crazy to drive into the box at every chance. The goal was the cherry on top of the cake.

Forwards

Nicolas Jackson – 7: No goal or assist today but he was always looking to create the chances. He was ready to shoot when no option was available, but none of his attempts on target.
