Brighton will host Southampton in the Premier League at the Amex Stadium on Friday, November 29. The two sides have had a contrasting start to the season and will clash for three points.

Brighton spent the highest amount (£200 million) in the summer transfer window in the Premier League under new manager Fabian Hurzeler. It has certainly paid off so far as they sit fifth in the table, level on points with Chelsea (3^rd) and Arsenal (4^th). They have racked up six wins, four draws, and two defeats in their 12 games.

Southampton, meanwhile, have struggled massively and sit at the bottom of the table on their return to the Premier League. They have just one win and one draw in 12 games, losing the other 10. They are already five points behind safety and look set for another relegation.

Brighton will be without Adam Webster, Ferdi Kadioglu, James Milner, and Solly March for their clash against Southampton. Danny Welbeck

Amidst all the young attacking talent that Southampton have accumulated in their squad, it’s the veteran Danny Welbeck who has been their star performer this season. He’s been in prolific form, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 12 Premier League games.

Welbeck is Brighton’s top scorer this season and has scored three goals and provided one assist in his last seven appearances. Despite the return of Joao Pedro and Evan Ferguson from injuries, Hurzeler has persisted with Welbeck as his main striker. However, he’s just got one assist in his last four appearances and will be keen to change that on Friday.

Tyler Dibling

While Southampton sits at the bottom of the Premier League table, Tyler Dibling has been a bright spark for them. So much so that he’s been linked with numerous top clubs for a potential summer transfer.

He has scored one goal and provided two assists in 14 games across competitions this season. However, the 18-year-old has been a constant threat and has been majorly involved in Southampton’s attack. He will be key if they are to get a positive result against Brighton.

While Brighton have largely been terrific this season, they have also had some inconsistencies. They were on a three-game winless run when they drew against Wolves before losing against Liverpool in the EFL Cup and again in the Premier League.

However, they bounced back with a thrilling 2-1 win over Manchester City at home and a 2-1 win over Bournemouth away despite playing with 10 men for over 30 minutes. They find themselves in a great position in the table and will be eager to continue their ascend into the top four.

Southampton, meanwhile, have lost six of their last eight games across competitions, winning the other two. They beat Stoke City in the EFL Cup and Everton in the Premier League. They then lost 2-0 against Wolves and 3-2 against Liverpool.

The Saints put up a good performance against Liverpool and could’ve taken a point at least. However, with all their injuries, it appears unlikely that they will be able to cause Brighton a lot of trouble away from home.
