Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid Preview

  • Tournament: LaLiga.
  • Date: Thursday, September 26.
  • Time: 7:00 PM GMT.
  • Venue: Balaidos.

Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid will be the third La Liga game to be played on September 26 as the tournament continues to produce exciting games.

Celta are currently ninth in the table and have made a balanced start to the season. They have recorded three wins and three defeats in their six games so far. They made a great start to the season as they won their first two games, but suffered two defeats after that. They were humbled 3-1 in their last outing against Athletic Club. A highlight of their matches has been their high-scoring nature as Celta have scored 14 and conceded 13 goals so far.

Atleti, on the other hand, have made a balanced start as well, but are one of three unbeaten sides in the division. They produced two draws in their opening three games and have also drawn their last outing 1-1 against Rayo Vallecano. While Atletico have done well to remain undefeated, they will look to reduce the number of stalemates they are involved in starting from the next game.

Having said that, let’s take a look at the team news coming out from both camps.

Manager Claudio Giraldez had to navigate uncertainty regarding four players in the last match against Athletic Club. Luca De La Torre, Mihailo Ristic, Carlos Dominguez and Javier Manquillo were ruled out of their previous match and remain doubtful for their next one. Wing-back Oscar Mingueza also suffered an early setback in that match and was subbed off after just five minutes and could miss the next one as well.

Unlike their next opponents, Diego Simeone will have a much shorter injury list to deal with and has a lot of quality players at his disposal. Thomas Lemar and Pablo Barrios are the only two players currently sidelined for Atleti, meaning the Argentine manager will have almost a fully-fit squad to pick from. Cesar Azpilicueta suffered a knock in the last game and was subbed off at half-time, leaving his participation for the next one in slight doubt.

The long-time Celta Vigo captain and talisman Iago Aspas will be key to them having any sort of chance of defeating Atletico Madrid. He has bagged a total of five goals and assists so far this season and will be crucial for the team in their next match. He scored from the spot in their last game which ended in defeat but will look to carry the scoring streak forward.

The Frenchman has been the highest contributor in a team that is creating goals from nearly every position. So far, Griezmann has notched a total of four goals and assists for the team in La Liga and will look to add to that tally. He provided a goal and an assist in their UEFA Champions League win against RB Leipzig and will look to replicate that form domestically.

Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid Prediction

Going by the teams’ current runs of form and the results of their last five meetings, there is no doubt Atletico Madrid will be the favourites to win this game. However, things will not be easy as Celta have managed to score at least one goal in each of their six games so far and will do the same again.
