Robertson backs Mohamed Salah to perform against Manchester United amid contract renewal deadlock

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has backed Mohamed Salah to continue his outstanding form for the club even as the winger is currently in a contract standoff with the club. The Egyptian has begun the season in breathtaking form, scoring twice and assisting once in the first two games against Ipswich and Brentford.

Robertson said: “I think Mo’s goals, assists and all-round play speak for themselves – and we hope it continues in the future. He is a big-game player. In the biggest games, Mo always shows up and comes up with something. He has always done that against our big rivals and we hope that continues this season.”

Liverpool take on Manchester United this weekend and Mohamed Salah boasts of a ridiculous record against them in particular. The 32 year old bagged 14 times against United, tormenting them every season without fail. Salah’s Liverpool stint in general has seen him become arguably the best winger to ever play in the Premier League but currently renewal talks are at a standstill with less than a year remaining on his current contract.

Robertson continued about the inspiration Salah has been, “You know when a big game is on the horizon, but Mo sets standards every single day. He is a model professional and if any kids are looking at professionals to base themselves on, then Mohamed Salah is not a bad person to do it to. Every single day he dedicates his life to football. You can see the shape he’s in. He is getting better with age in terms of his shape and his physical output and attributes. That is credit to him.”

“We hope that continues because obviously he is our main man,” the Scottish left back stated.
