FC Barcelona handed a massive boost in the transfer of Federico Chiesa

FC Barcelona has registered a strong interest in Federico Chiesa. The Blaugranas have been in a desperate search for a left-winger this summer. Athletic Club’s Nico Williams led the wishlist until now, but his case seems to have faded within the Catalan club. Chiesa, who has been discarded by Juventus coach, Thiago Motta, has hence become the most likely option for the left flank at Camp Nou.

According to the Spanish outlet, SPORT, Barcelona’s pursuit of the Italian is further helped by the desire of the player to prioritize a move to Spain. Inter Milan, Manchester United, and Chelsea have all been put on hold by the winger as he awaits the negotiations between Juventus and Barcelona. The 26-year-old is rumoured to be willing to reduce his annual salary to €4.5 million upon receiving a three-year contract.

The deal between the two clubs should not be an issue with Juventus looking to offload Chiesa quickly to free up space in the squad. The Italian’s constant fitness issues have cost him a place in Turin after four challenging seasons. The Old Lady is open to accepting offers as low as €10 million which will greatly delight the Barcelona leaders given their current financial state.

Barcelona’s interest in Rafael Leao handed a major blow

Alongside Federico Chiesa, the Catalan giants were also following another explosive winger from Serie A. Rafael Leao from AC Milan has been long appreciated at Barcelona, and the club President, Joan Laporta is said to have labelled the Portuguese as his dream signing. Following Real Madrid’s acquisition of Kylian Mbappe, Barcelona looked to make a move for Rafael Leao but the prospect was quickly ruled out.

Milan has asked for a fee of at least €175 million for its star winger. The figure drew Barcelona away from the deal with the club not in a position to come anywhere near the required amount. The five-time European champions’ financial troubles are well documented and can prove to be a hurdle in registering Federico Chiesa to La Liga, provided the transfer goes through.
