Tottenham suspend Yves Bissouma for Social Media Incident

Yves Bissouma misses Leicester City opener

Tottenham Hotspur‘s midfielder Yves Bissouma has been suspended for Monday’s Premier League opener against Leicester City.

This decision follows a controversy surrounding Bissouma who posted a video on Snapchat showing himself inhaling laughing gas – a Class C drug. The footage led to an internal review by the club and a public apology from the Mali international.

Manager Ange Postecoglou announced the suspension, stating that Bissouma needs to rebuild trust with the team. “We’ve suspended Bissouma from Monday’s game. He needs to build that trust back with both me and the group,” Postecoglou said.

“We’ve suspended Bissouma from Monday’s game. He needs to build that trust back with both me and the group. The door is open for him but behaviour is crucial,” Tottenham’s manager Ange Postecoglou told the reporters on Thursday.

Bissouma’s Apology and Consequences

Bissouma apologized for his actions, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. “I want to apologize for these videos. This was a severe lack of judgment,” he said. Bissouma further added saying:

“I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.”

“(I have) been in the game for a long time, when a situation like this arises, I’ve tried to look at them in a couple of ways. First there’s a person and it’s Biss and he’s made a poor decision,” Postecolglou added.

“There are still sanctions involved, and some of those are educational. He is a footballer with responsibilities.”

The use of laughing gas for recreational purposes has become a criminal offence in the UK reflecting the gravity of the situation. Postecoglou noted that while Bissouma made a poor decision, educational sanctions are part of the response.
