Lionel Messi sends heartfelt message to Sergi Roberto after Barcelona exit

Sergi Roberto leaves Barcelona after 18 years

The 32-year-old former captain of FC Barcelona Sergi Roberto has officially announced his departure from the club.

After 18 years at the Catalan outfit Roberto leaves as a free agent. His contract with Barcelona expired on June 30 and although there was a renewal offer on the table but it depended on the club’s Fair Play situation.

Unfortunately, Roberto’s registration was not a priority for Barcelona this summer leading him to make the tough decision to bid farewell.

Tributes have poured in from his current and former teammates. Notable figures like Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, and Jordi Alba have all sent their best wishes as Roberto prepares for the next chapter in his career.

Messi messages to his former teammate

Among the well-wishers, Lionel Messi (a Barcelona legend and former captain) took to social media to send his message to Roberto. Posting a picture of the two together Messi wished him luck in his future endeavours by writing: “All the best of luck in your new phase. I wish you all the best.”

The way Roberto left Barcelona mirrors Messi’s own departure from the club three years ago.

Both players waited for contract renewals only to find out that their registrations were impossible forcing them to leave as free agents. Now, Roberto, like Messi before him, must decide on the next move in his career with many options on the table and who know he might join the Messi army at Inter Miami.
