New Barcelona manager Hansi Flick began his tenure on a high note as his team edged out Man City in a dramatic penalty shootout. The match which was held in Orlando ended 2-2 in regulation time but Barcelona triumphed 4-1 on penalties.
The game was part of both teams’ pre-season tours in the United States with Flick’s side facing a strong challenge from the reigning Premier League champions.
A crowd of 63,237 fans endured an 80-minute delay due to a storm but were rewarded with an entertaining contest.
Barcelona’s new teenage signing Toni Fernandez was the hero of the night scoring the decisive penalty. The young talent who joined Barcelona earlier this month at just 16 showed poise beyond his years to secure the win.

The match saw a lively start with Pau Victor putting Barcelona ahead in the 24th minute. A quick pass from Marc Casado set up Victor who blasted the ball into the net from the right side.
Man City responded in the 39th minute through Nico O’Riley who scored with a left-footed shot after receiving a pass from Josko Gvardiol.
Pablo Torre restored Barcelona’s lead just before half-time scoring from a tight angle past City’s goalkeeper Ederson.
However, Jack Grealish levelled the game in the 60th minute with a well-placed shot following a brilliant run and assist from Mateo Kovacic.

The match provided valuable minutes for both teams’ reserves with plenty of young talents on display. Barcelona will continue their pre-season preparations with matches against Real Madrid and AC Milan while Manchester City will wrap up their US tour against Chelsea in Columbus, Ohio.
